Hi everyone, the door mirror on my 1990 W463 has taken a knock whilst parked at the station. As a result it now has no tension to hold it out in position. The electric adjustment still works anddd its still upright but as you drive along it starts to fold itself back against the car. Any ideas please? Mirrors seem pretty pricey! Thanks Mud

Re: Floppy door mirror

It might just have been knocked loose inside

mine were loose so i took them off and tightened them up

It should be fine if it has not broken the aluminium body the nut screws too

Re: Floppy door mirror

You will need to remove the mirror to see what's happened to it.

To do this, take off the interior door card and then you will see three M10 bolts which retain the mirror base. Unplug the mirror electrical connector and then undo the bolts and remove the mirror. In the base part, you will see a large nut that holds the mirror hinge. You can undo this and see if the spring mechanism has become displaced or indeed, broken off.

Used mirrors appear from time to time on German eBay, for around € 150.
