Getting some flooding in the passenger footwell. My first thought was the screen - but have had it checked (re-sealed) and I'm assured by the bloke with the "sticky stuff", that the screen and the rubber is not and was not the source of the leak. There was no moisture in there, so I'm inclined to believe it.

So - where else should I be looking for the water getting in?

If anyone has any thoughts on this - please let me know. Also, if anyone has any schematics, that'd help a lot too...

The vehicle is a LWB G 461.

I can see small rivulets running down the LHS of the bulkhead, roughly where the left foot would sit. It is little more than a dribble - but when it rains, it's quite constant and builds up pretty quick...

Cheers...

Re: Floods in passenger footwell

My guess would be wiper spindle(s). It's quite easy to check, give the wiper a yank, if there's movement in the spindle it could well be the culprit.

Mine is suffering the same at the moment, pretty annoying and unbelievable the amount of water that gets in.

I'm assuming no sunroof as it's a 461?

Re: Floods in passenger footwell

I have just had one of mine done (the other is proving a bit trickier at the moment) and as I had a pond in the floor well, I was advised that it was either the screen or the wiper spindles. I had the passenger one done and it has dried up almost completely so I figure when the other is done, it will be fine. There is only one tiny little damp patch in the corner but no longer soaking

Gav supplied the kits and they are really not expensive

No, you're right - no sunroof.

Will try the spindle test...

Thanks...

Re: Floods in passenger footwell

looking into the front wheel arches you can see the black front inner wheel arch wings.  they  are connected to the firewall with 2 studs just ahead of the side indicators . they are a water trap  prone to rusting and water gets in !!

how do i know ????? dont ask.....

worn spindles are very common too.  as is the age old front air intake where the vin plate is riveted. the water exit valve easily gets clogged . check it. if its clogged water comes through there too.

461 is rare in the uk..whats the spec ?

good luck.

Though it about time to update my "photo".

My 461 is the Steyr Puch 461 turbo diesel.

under your floor mats and the carpet is a drain hole specifically designed for this problem, remove carpets and leave it open till it stops raining

Yes, thanks.

The carpet has been out for a while - completely dried out now. Leave the drain plug out - good plan...

if the wiper spindle is OK there is a fiber washer on the outside of spindle to bodywork

    check condition

Re: Floods in passenger footwell
that is not a drain plug. it is access to bolt body to chassis. have a good look up high in foot well where the carpet ends. i had same prob and sorted it at the wknd. clean well and seal with good quality silicone. if a drain plug is removed water Will splash up off road and in.. a set of wheel arch liners would also help.

Also check the bolt for the battery hold down clamp. If the clamps missing the bolt hole lets water in from the battery tray. Its right above the relays and fuses for good measure.

Re: Floods in passenger footwell

I now own this Steyr 461 and it has still got the water leak, but I have now located the leak, see the picture it's coming from two points just below the electrics (what is the hinge for?) I think I will have to take the battery out to see if I can stop the leak from the source on the other side. It's also coming through into the underside of the wheel arch so any one that has had the same problem and have any recommendations they would be welcome.

It's not floods but a little dribble.

Re: Floods in passenger footwell
I had the same problem with my 461. It turned out to be the drain plug was blocked at the bottom of air inlet for the heater. If you lift the bonnet back vertically against the windscreen you should be able to get you arm down into the inlet box, and just before the heater matrix in the base of the box you should find a rubber bellow, designed to let water out. Clean out any leaves etc ad push somehing such as a small screwdriver though it to check it's clear. The other problem I had was the battery tray. There are a couple unused threaded holes which as has already pointed out allows water to drip into the car onto the fuse board. I sealed the holes using dome top screws.

Thanks for that Howard I'll check it out on mine, sounds like one applies to mine, it's worth checking the cab air intake drain every couple of years.

Re: Floods in passenger footwell
Hi Just to echo a comment above.... do check your spindles and if you don't have them, fit finer washers to the outside face. Twice I have had well garages fit these with steel washes and they leak like a sieve.. Also check things like the grommet where your throttle passes through the bulkhead and finally the heater matrix hose clips. Finally if your door rubbers are tired you can get water coming in at the bottom under the plastic trim strip - especially at the front bottom edge... Ta Simon PS - Me and the guys who look after the G have come to the view that the reason they are made of such high quality thick steel, is so that when they rust.... they can do so for a long time before anything fails :-)
