The drivers side wing mirror on my 1993 SWB 300 isn't quite as firm when in the normal driving position as it was. I have to fold it in and then out again when negotiating into my driveway so maybe that has caused the problem. When I say "flapping" what I mean is that the movement is slightly back and forth rather than up and down and it's the whole unit that moves rather than just the glass. Before I start removing the door card etc., is the tightening nut inside the doorframe or is it behind the glass in the wing mirror? If it's behind the mirrow, what is the best way to remove it (a) to avoid breaking it and (b) to enable safe and simple replacement? As always, any tips/help much appreciated.

If the bracket is loose, there are three screws on the inside of the door frame which can be tightened. If, on the other hand, the hinge is loose, then you will need to remove the mirror (the three screws and cable plug) to tighten the lock nut for the swivel hinge, which is in the inside of the cup-shaped bracket.

I will soon be banned from here lol It will be the the mirror main stalk where it swivels This involves a door card removal You will see the adjusting ring and take the mirror to bits and adjust as required Mine is now good as new and folds in and locks into place securely Once removed you will work it out If not just ask me G

Thanks to both - just waiting for the rain to hold off for a while so I can get to it. Note to self - must make sure that next house comes complete with garage with door high enough to get a G in.

OK - done that.

The star headed screw into the ring though didn't seem to want to tighten up completely - just kept going round and round. But now put back together and seems to be behaving properly for the time being at least.

Top job

The screw on mine was the same. I just locked it to make sure the ring could not work loose

About 130 mirror foldings later its still fine and clicks into position well

Was it as i said and a bit of grease and its good to go

Glad you had positive results

Re: Flapping wing mirror

Sorry to return to this - but mirror has worked loose again.

Took everything apart but the screw that holds the ring in place won't tighten up properly. The problem is that the thread in the plastic has word down so it's now possible to push the screw all the way in and remove without having to turn it.

Is there a magical solution to this - short of supergluing the screw in place - if I do that what happens when removal is needed sometime in the future?
