Electric windows & open door relay?
My 1989 280GE - chassis number WDB46023327065496 - has 4 electric windows. There's some sort of relay/switch which powers up the window motors when you open the doors, so you don't have to switch on the ignition to open & close the windows. This has stopped working and there's no click sound when the doors are opened now, so I have to have igniton switched on to operate the windows. The interior light still works on the door switch. Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to fix this please?
Many thanks - Suzie
There was a similar system on a 1989 Mercedes R107 300sl I had.
If a door was opened with the ignition switched off you could operate the electric windows. It appeared to be activated by the intererior light switch on the door. If that was sticking neither the light or window switch would work on that side of the car. A squirt of WD40 into the switch and pushing them in and out a few times seemed to get it all working.
Might be a "dirty" or loose fuse so check that then I suspect it will be onto relays.
No doubt with four doors and different interior lights it will be completely different - but worth a try.
It's called the convenience feature relay. It powers the sunroof too if fitted. Has it ceased to function on all 4 doors simultaneously? If so then the relay is probably broken. I don't know the 460 electrics very well but the relay will be mounted with all the others.
On my early 463 there are two switches, one does interior light and the other does electric windows. Unfortunately sunroof depends on ignition key. Presume same fault with passenger door? Maybe just dodgy switch ?

Thanks for replies. As I said, the interior lights still work on the door switch, it's just the electric window switch that's stopped working. Can anyone identify the relay for this? Or tell me where it is or what it looks like?
