I see from archive research that some members have experience of the electric window problems re; 463 models and wonder if anybody has any idea of the Mercedes Part numbers ref. RHD drivers door and front passenger door spiral cables? (mine are slow, rusty and need replacing).

I have tried via my local Mercedes dealership at Mercedes Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey and now am the proud owner of a pair of electrical cable re: 463 window electrical installations!

I will replace the electrical cables with these new ones but will wait until I can replace the spiral drive cables at the same time.

Can anyone help with the right part numbers or know somebody who can.

Thanks.

Martin

Re: Electric Windows

I have never seen the spiral drive 'cables' sold separately. I may be wrong, therefore, but I'm afraid that the window regulators (note the terminology) are sold as complete units with motors. Yes, they do wear to the point where the window no longer lifts properly and requires assistance.

There's a new one here in the UK for £350, which is probably about as good as it's going to get on this part. ($1300 advertised price in USA).

Later ones use cables and pulleys.

Re: Electric Windows

I dare say one could probably affect a DIY repair with the right components.

Here is another supplier, with more reasonable prices (probably aftermarket version):

Yes, there is a LEFT and RIGHT version

Re: Electric Windows

That does seem cheap, is there enough market for aftermarket? Anyone experience with this firm?

Re: Electric Windows

Sprial cables can be out sourced but then these have to be engineered to fit and function.

Latter G's employ cabled regulators and my logic dictates that if Mercedes can do it why cannot we replace with cabled regulators instead of the mechanical as replacement. The cabled version is cheaper and easily sourced.

Any one with gumption to have a go?

Re: Electric Windows

Yes, Rakesh, it can be done. and the latest version operates more quickly.

The first version of cabled regulators were unreliable and there is now a second version being sold. Unfortunately, each, (including the original spiral cable version) requires a different attachment to the glass and it's not an easy job to swap this part without damaging the glass. But, it can be done.

Re: Electric Windows

Mine had stopped lifting completely but I removed the door panels and lubed everything up and it works fine now, i did use wd40 but in retrospect i should have probably used a silicone lube, i may strip and redo another time

Re: Electric Windows

Dirt does accumulate and a clean and re-grease will make a big difference to slow window mechanism.. (WD40 is good for cleaning, but it's lubricating effects are very short-lived)
