Does anyone know the DMFW part number for my 463 3.0 GES. I believe my engine is a M103.987 with 717.439 5 speed manual transmission.

Sherlock is looking for me but I know that he is in a great deal of pain with his back at the moment. Get well soon Gav :-(

I have been trying to see if any other DMFW’s from Mercs would fit and believe the following list of mercs all use the QKT1351AF kits that an online supplier quoted for mine.

If anyone has the part number or even a spare DMFW please give me a shout.

Other Mercs that use the QKT1352AF kit are listed below :-

280E 2.8i 24v (W124)                      10/92 – 93
280TE 2.8i Kombi (T124)                 10/92 – 93
300CE 3.0i Coupe (C124)                 9/89 – 93
300E3.0i (W124)                                9/89 – 9/92
300E 3.0i 4-Matic (W124)                  9/89 – 9/92
300SE 2.8i 24v (W140)                      3/93 – 9/93
300TE 3.0i Kombi (T124)                   9/89 – 7/93
300TE 3.0i Kombi 4-Matic (T124)      9/89 – 7/93
300TE 3.0i 24v Kombi (T124)              9/89 – 9/92
E280 2.8i 24v (W124)                           6/93 – 96
S280 2.8i 24v (W140) (001032)            6/93 - 98

If anyone can confirm the part number or whether the above list is correct or conclusive I would really appreciate the advice.

Thanks
Tim

Re: DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL for 463

Jason,

Yes my G gives an awful resonance/vibration at 45mph which has driven me completely nuts for 6 months.

I just need to find a secondhand one as eventually I will be going down the route of a diesel conversation and the cost of a new one would simply be dead money.

Re: DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL for 463

Have you ruled out everything else? Might be worth a call to Damas ( Breakers) and asking if they have any, but have your list of engine codes ready.

Re: DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL for 463

Hello Tim,

You are teaching an old "woofy" some new tricks. It is interesting to learn that, your resonance issue turns out to be a DMF.

On our Road test, did we not have the car running in neutral and the resonance still present?

I did not envisige that the W463 even used DMF!

I would like to learn who and how this fault had been located and isolated; please do tell, for I will need to edit my article on Vibrations; to add DMF as a possible cause to vibrations.

I think you can use a conventional fly wheel instead; the DMF were designed to have smoother power transition.

Re: DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL for 463

Gav,

If Damas can help I may ask you to try and negotiate a price as after all the flywheel may only be needed for a few months and I just want it to put this vibration to bed.

Hope you're on the mend with the back.

Re: DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL for 463

Rakesh,

On our road test the vibration/resonance was only there when in transmission.

The diagnostics was completed by 'Mr Kipling' .......you know who....The bloke who makes exceedingly good diesel conversions :-)

A number of tests were completed and tyres, bearings, transfer box and prop shafts were all ruled out.

Lets hope this is the case as I have searched and read so many articles on G Wagen vibrations with non ever really mentioning a DMFW as the problem. Perhaps it would be good to take a video clip of the resonance as this may help others who have similar problems that turn out to be non of the usual vibration causes.

Will keep you posted.

Regards

Tim

Re: DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL for 463

Hi Rakesh

All the 463's run Dual Mass Flywheels

Even the early models 200GE M102 ... 230GE M102 ... 300GE M103 ... 250GD OM602 ... 300GD OM603

In addition all the later models do to...

You are of course correct that it is possible to replace the Dual Mass Flywheel with a conventional solid Flywheel and the appropriate clutch type if required with no noticeable difference to the drive... a popular conversion on the early Sprinter vans in fact

Re: DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL for 463

Thanks PR for the advice.....but that was one of the first things done as when I bought the jeep it was advertised as just a steering damper to resolve the vibration!

Not being mechanically minded it was taken on board as purchase price didn't seem too bad...

I also replaced all new bearings, hub seals, brakes all round, wheels, tyres, brake master cylinder, engine mounts plus all the other bits such full service and a subtle color change in leather seats, new screen and seal plus body work touch ups etc etc

Now six months down the line and hoping eventually to have a diesel conversion to match some of the two Mr 'B's diesel porn showing on the other channel :-)

Hopefully, the DMF will solve the problem that may help others have a vibration free ride.

Let's hope this cures the problem.

Thanks to everyone on the forum for advice and ideas.

Regards

Tim
