door hinges
has anyone replaced the pins on the front door hinges .The pins are available cheaply, hinges are'nt,but looking at my top hinge I find it hard to see how the pin can come out without fouling the door.I have a lot of play to get rid of.Any tips?

Hi
I have just changed mine. I got the door off and heated the hinges and thay knocked out easy. Then I over drilled the outer hinges and put in a rod. then I welded the top of the rod to the hinge to help to keep the water out. It was the middle of the hinge that had worne. Six weeks ago and still okay.
Hinges, why change the pins? unbolt and fit two new prepainted hinges as recently done to my drivers doorduring its last service, I was not forwarned of a shock but haven't had the bill yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why not?
Is the repair kit a Mercedes product?

I ended up replacing the drivers door hinges with secondhand ones off a scrap G.The results are good but there was a lot of work.It would have been nice to change the pins in situ but I do'nt think it can be done, not on the top one anyway. From looking at my damaged hinge ,I seen, there was a lot of wear in the inside of the hinge as well as on the pin,so new pins may not have been the answer. The hardest part was cutting through the welds to remove the hinges without damaging the door.
