diesel conversion
can anyone advise on a diesel transplant into a 230 460with a 4 speed box.will a124 series 300 6 cyl fit.if yes what else i need to consider.if not what is a good choice?
thank you
By far the easiest option would be to fit a four cylinder 602 engine. This would match your bellhousing without having to reposition the gearpox. A 2 ltr unit from a 190D or a 200D 124 may be underpowered so a 2.3 ltr unit from a 208D or 308D van is better, if you can find one that hasn't been thrashed. A van unit also has a heavier flywheel and clutch but you need to change the oil filter housing for a car type. I would recomend fitting a 5 spd gearbox to compensate for the lower reving diesel, but you will need sellector, linkage rods & prop to match. If youre going to that trouble you may as well fit a 5 cylinder 2.9 unit from a 310D van, although You'll need difrent engine legs.
Hope this is of some help to you . Cheers Ken. :) :)
