Did Mercedes get it wrong?
I am now onto my third G Wagen and have to say that I never tire of the elevated driving position. Like probably all of you I love everything about the over-engineered feel, the slamming of the doors to make sure that they are fully sure and the sheer weight and solid feel to everything you touch.
The question I am asking is...................................
DID MERCEDES PLACE THE 463 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IN THE WRONG PLACE?
I am no giant but at 6ft 1 and 18 stone which ever way I adjust my seat I simply cannot see all of the dials unless I crook my neck!
The top of the steering wheel always obscures the fuel gauge, the 3-5 revs and any speed from 45 - 85 mph.
Was this a problem on my old 460?...I don't recall.
This is probably not and issue for G Wagen owners under 5ft 7 or over 6ft 5 but I just wonders if anyone else had noticed this :-)
Thanks
Tim
I think you have a special order version for Spider1V - he asked for it to be that way so he had a ready made excuse to offer the police when stopped. "Honestly officer - I had no idea I was doing 84mph!"

Trans-positional dyslexia. We all know he never does more than 48 mph
I think 460's have bigger steering wheels. Only 460's and early 461's have a cluster unique to the G. The rest are taken from straight from the car range.
I know what it is - you just want additional cluster of dials to make your console look like a Rally cars dash....
OR, OR, you want one of those 'Batman' steering wheel with the top arch of the steering wheel chopped off......
Gents,
This was not a 'Let's have a go at Spider1V post' but a serious sensible question
Tim
Why not ?

Ooops! - I now feel terrible that I might have upset Spider1V's delicate sensibilities.
Apologies to anyone else who thinks that I overstepped the mark.

Hmmmmm..... OK see where this is going..... so in a refined, mature, non technical way I will explain a few points to those members who are 'thirsting' for more knowledge on their G463's.

I thought it was going to pull the tractor! LOL Why, as he was on sand, did he not deflate the tyres to get traction, and then get out?
D'oh!
Spider1V
I do have an inward chuckle abut the 300 463's and the question posed from the honorable member for Norfolk when driving a 300, why do you think you need to look at the speedo?

did mercedes get it wrong ? possibly -however tim a solution is not far away - go on get one, you will be the talk of norfolk
enjoy...
so what you are saying is that all you can manage is a semi??
that allegro wheel was a perfectly reasonable solution , there is just no pleasing mr. new wood and leather lwb swanky motor owner .
yes i do know the problem , the wheel you have is 390 mm diameter (sportline size i think??) it does make seeing portions of the instrument cluster difficult , do you remember the leather 4 spoke early sieberfelter amg wheel i showed you that i had got for my super g / this will to a certain degree have the same problem but with a 460 type cluster the effect is not so bad as on a w124 type binnacle.
Gents,
This was not a 'Let's have a go at Spider1V post' but a serious sensible question and as near as you will get to a technical question from myself
You boys are so yesterday....our 8 legged 'Stirling Moss' has moved onto Mazda's!

It then reminded me of the old men behaving badly sketch which always made me laugh.

Please can someone take the time to give some thought to my technical question....or will I have to wait for Joe to post a sensible reply?
