Hello Everyone,
I have to report the very sad news that David Grix died last week at Salisbury Hospital. He had been ill for some time and so had been able to make some preparations. Most of you will have seen the recent advertisement prepared on his behalf for the sale of his beloved grey “desert warrior”, the 300 G.D. with just
about every conceivable extra to make travel in the Atlas mountains easy.
It might have been only the flicker of a fire from a TOUREG camp, or just another shooting star in the clear desert sky, but my guess it was David waving us goodbye.
Now his mantle has been taken over by EDDIE GILMARTIN who bought the “G”, and , after some fettling hopes once again to take it down to North Africa, or further afield with his sons. Meanwhile our thoughts are with his family, especially CHERIE who looked after him with such dedication.
As soon as we have the date, time and place for the funeral, I will post all the information. However it is likely that it will be close to Blandford in DORSET.
I would be grateful if anyone who has the time can join me in saying “goodbye” to David by taking part in the funeral procession in their “Gs” as a salute to his life and tribute to his desert journeys which inspired many others to follow.
I will, of course, be arranging a wreath on behalf of the Club.
Will keep you all posted.
Uncle Richard.

David..as in the cabinet maker ?..blimey..very sad news. lots of fond memories of meets with David there...I guess smoking caught up with him in the end...would be great to see photos of a parade of G's at his funeral..that would be a fitting send off for him for sure.
