Hi I have a 1992 G300 petrol. Recently the dashboard lights only have gone out. I have tried all the remedies suggested in the forum, but to no avail. I cant see any cut outs in the instrument cluster to allow the use of pulling tool. There is a small trim around the glass part of the cluster. How do I remove this (if I have to?) I don't want to damage anything! It would seem likely that a rheostat problem is the cause of light failure, but how do I get to it??? Help appreciated. Thanks

Re: dashboard lights out

Most likely  the dimmer switch is gone.  Try switching on/off gently a few times. There a U tube on this subject. A word of advice. Use proper extractor tools  to remove the cluster or you will damage it!

You will need to remove the steering wheel. Then, with a pair of MB binnacle pullers (eBay £5), one on each side, you can then extract the binnacle from the dash. Insert pullers on the left and right side of instrument binnacle and pull gently outwards.

Re: dashboard lights out

I seem to recall that on my old '92 the dash could be removed with the steering wheel in place. The dimmer switch affects the brightness on the centre console lights as well as the dash lights. Removing the dash is the place to start as the individual bulb holders.

Re: dashboard lights out

The removal process is as in Arnie's notes. I had  mine out to replace the outside temp display unit. One needs to remove the steering wheel, disconnect the horn and of course ensure that it will be centered once re-installed. The tricky bit is to ensure that the speedometer is connected properly and of course test the cluster that it works before refitting it!

I think the dimmer switch controls only  the  dash lights but not the warning lights of the instrument cluster
