I'm on my 3rd G-wagen, the 1st I had was a 460 diesel, then a 280ge auto. My current truck is a w463 ge300 swb, it black and its a manual, I'm not using it much at all and having a total of 5 cars it seems barmy keeping it locked up in the garage. My youngest son wants it but the insurance is still too much for him, he may be able to insure a diesel 460 so if anyone out there want an upgrade & p/x an older vehicle drop me a line. He doesn't return from Australia till December so I'm in no hurry to sell

Has your son tried Collectors Car insurance policy through Adrian Flux? Or NFU? Tho not great if he wants it for commuting.

A few pictures; bumpers need some back to black shiny stuff on them and the leather interior shows up the faded plastics but overall a pretty sound vehicle and capable of another 150k. I also have an alloy roof rack but it can't be fitted whilst the car is garagedlaugh

Why not one of the other ones? Or you going for the Pimptastic 6x6?

Shame you are thinking of letting it go.

Re: Considering selling my 463

I have seen a huge variation in prices, lots of chancers, even villains out in the market, condition should be the real determinant which should mean mine is worth at least £10k however before I formally advertise I am optimistic that someone wants to trade an elderly diesel.

The 460 ge280 auto is a nice vehicle to drive but its a very thirsty beast, expect 13-15 mpg

NFU are very good but not cheap (I'm with them and v happy). I've heard different stories about AF, not all good, and the general impression I've got is that you can get better service/cover elsewhere at their prices. As ever, could be wrong.

Re: Considering selling my 463

Would have to agree on the NFU - though they come through this year by far the cheapest. (Even cheaper than Merci B!) This year is £760 fully comp with wife, dad and me as named drivers. Unlimited miles, social but no carriage for money. Interesting that it also covers for Off road, green lanes but not timed trials or treasure hunts. My experience after a crash has always been 5*, car hire, NC protection etc etc.

AF, every time I have asked, have been one of the most expensive, however I understand for limited distances and miles, very compeditive.

Re: Considering selling my 463

i was just quoted £158 fully comp protected and commuting for a 460 Black 280 GE SWB..   £760 sounds steep.. the money i save i can spend on fuel instead!! lol

Re: Considering selling my 463

I presume a 500 a few higher groups than a 280 and worth a bit more.....

NFU don't charge any admin fee if you make any changes, found AF a bit too keen on sales patter, have to download policy etc, not nearly as easy to speak to as NFU, so worth the extra

John 757,

First congrats on the new G - post up some pictures when you have finished drooling over it! Re the £760 - it far cheaper than the £3,200 AF quoted and the £1,700 MB quoted! The 'beast' in question is a G500, 2001 and is used everyday, work , pleasure etc etc. The NFU were the only people that a) knew what a G Wagen was and b) had the G500 listed! On the two occasions I have had to claim, its been a dream, no hassles, no issues.

HTH

Many happy miles with your new G!

We switched to the NFU several years ago.

The very day they came on cover SWMBO managed a significant prang on a new ML. I groaned inwardly as I thought of all the hassle it was going to be.

I called NFU (rather apologetically) they took the details, arranged for the car to be picked up, and that was it. Car arrived back a couple of weeks later good as new.

One phone call, really that was it! Excellent.

Cheers Gav.. Will do that.. Mann air filter seem pricy at eurocarparts at nearly £30 or is that reasonable? Wondering what MB charge for adjusting valve clearance / tapetts.. Would like them checked ..

Re: Considering selling my 463

This car has stainless steel exhaust that's been de-catted, I still have the cat but its emissions compliant without it, stainless factory running boards, sun roof, electric windows, service history, complete head rebuild a couple ogf years ago, leather and an option on set of stainless steel bullbars. K8 number plate for those that like to personalise inanimate objects. MOT October.
