Chuffing G320 CDI
Perfect, door sorted!! thank you both and whilst I have your attention there is a strange chuffing noise almost like a manifold gasket blowing slightly when the engine is under load that seems to come from behind the instrument binnacle or steering wheel.if you rev the engine and listen from outside or underneath the vehicle it's very difficult to determine the sound but it is almost as though some soundproofing or a rubber panel grommet has been removed or damaged. I am fairly sure it is not a manifold gasket blowing and just wondered if anybody else has experienced this.
Hopefully not BLACK DEATH!
The CDI's tend to like blowing high pressure diesel out of the Injector Seat, sounds as described...
You can't usually see anything as the Injectors are hiding behind the plastic top cover..
If caught early then Injector out, new sealing washer and sorted, sometimes the Seat needs cleaning with a special "cleaning kit"
If not caught then IF the plastic cover will come off, you usually find a rock hard mess of solid black Carbon deposit that covers EVERYTHING, usually all the Injectors and wiring are smothered and shot.
We used to leave it all soaking in Coke Cola for 3 days to break it down and even then usually had to smash the rocker cover off and slide hammer the Injectors out!
Sometimes even that didnt work!
Can be a costly rebuild if its gone too far...
Hopefully will be something innocuous and or you catch it early
Gav
is the Muso engine a CDi?
No...
OM601/602/603/604/605/606 and the Musso OM661/662 are not and...
Only the OM602/603/606 in the G
Only CDI's are...
OM611/612/613/628/642/647/651..
Only the OM612/628/642 in the G
OM612 = 270CDI
OM628 = 400CDI
OM642 = 280/300/320/350CDI
Obviously OM616/617 are well before that tech too
wonder if this is the same issue:
I think my problem was just a minor, and I mean minor exhaust blow and the damaged steering column gaiter. I have done a temporary fix on the gaiter and silenced it in the car.
