So a few weeks ago, I posted an ad up in the Wanted section.

I said I was looking for a black 2013- G350 Bluetec with the extras- Well I've found one but its grey.

Just wanted general thoughts on Black Vs Grey - do I walk away as its not the color that I had in mind?

Playing devil's advocate, Grey is just as good as black and may in fact maybe be a colour that's more livable for the long term..

But does it loose that statement and presence as its not in black?

Other thing that I'm compromising is on is rear entertainment..

However, it does have a sunroof and illuminating lighting - both which are bonuses, I'm just stuck on the colour.

You can see it here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/mercedes-benz/g-class/m...

A chap name Richard selling it on the behalf of a banker friend, Should I be worried? Does anyone know anything about this motor? Is it a fair price?

Please help.

Thanks in advanced

Re: Black or Grey?

Gray looks nice ! (just personal preference but i'd prefer gray)

The wear on the mat and peddles looks to exceed the stated only 8k miles ? Selling for a friend in m experience is using a dealer and usually an attempt to gloss over and rebuf questions as he simply will not know (but does and doesn't wish to answer as the answer is often a negative)

But gray looks nice !

Grey looks good to me - a whole lot easier to keep looking clean and shiny than black in my experience (of course, some people enjoy washing and polishing such a monster before every trip).

Re: Black or Grey?

I had a black car before and it looked great when i collected it and looked great for a while after. BUT it soon started to show it's age and became boring quickly. I now have a bronze one ! Everybody comments and says "That's a lovely colour and i've never seen one before !"

Black is boring !

But color is irrelevant and the main point of focus here should be that the "selling for a friend" is suspicious and the wear on cabin floor parts appears to exceed 8k ?

Re: Black or Grey?

Everyone has black, including me, but hard to keep looking clean for more than a day. And, yes, it's now a boring colour.

Wear in rubber mats seems excessive, as pointed out, but rest looks fine. Perhaps lots of short journeys, with hard shoes?

Ask for evidence to support mileage, like dealer service stamps etc.

Nothing wrong with Grey. Easier to keep clean than black, hides the scratched better and a little different as most G's tend to be black. I have a tektite Grey, which even after 200K miles and 14 years, still polishes up beautifully.

Re: Black or Grey?

Thanks neilmarton and Arnie for your thoughts, regarding the colour I guess i'll know instantly as soon as I see it.

I thought the same regarding the pedal and floor mat - I can't work out if it is a bad photo or actual wear on the pedals. After speaking with Richard, the actual owner is banker - so the hard shoes on short trips could actually be the cause.

I'm seeing it on Tuesday.

It's still under warranty, I'm not sure of the service intervals but 8k mileage is well below average..

I agree with you on this Jo, Grey is easier to keep clean, I have a Black/Grey one at the minute, which is better than straight black.

Obsidian Black mettalic is nice had this one before-pain in the ass to keep clean as I liked it shiny all the time.

1st pic-black

2nd pic-grey

Re: Black or Grey?
Very nice pictures gooch. There's not a great deal of difference, granted the grey isn't as 'harsh' or as spectacular.. they look so good in black. However, the grey paint job was an optional extra! So the meeting on Tuesday is called off as the trader who is representing the banker confirmed that the log book is misplaced. He is ordering another one, so rather than meet on Tuesday the deal might get done on Friday. Is 61k a fair price..? That includes the trade in on my 53 volvo xc90? It's the grey one on pistonheads What should I be looking out for? I'll have to clear the finance with Mercedes and then pay the balance to the trader.
