Auxiliary Battery Fitment
Hello folks,
I am considering fitting an auxiliary battery to my 2002 G270CDi (VIN: WDB4633231X132396), therefore can anyone tell me if this is possible without any electrical modifications ? I am aware that some 4x4's around this age started having intelligent alternators fitted and wondered if my vehicle has one ?

Without holding a gun to my head, I would have thought it O.K. to fit your battery but with split charging fitted to it.

Its the c-tek C250s which can be charged from the G (alternator) and from solar. Still looks a bit complicated, so do your research.
And to see if you have a Smart Alternator - you need to look at the earth lead on your main battery. There's a video of this also, for a transit, and just skip to 4m in to avoid the rambling:
If you have that, apparently, you need a Split Charge Relay to wire in another Lead Acid leisure battery. About £250.
Great. So apparently you check for the sensor on the earth lead to your main starter batter. If it has the sensor, its a smart alternator.
Personally, I doubt the G270 has a smart alternator, but the sensor is the check.

Thanks Gents, I will check that out. I already have all the equipment to fit ie; a National Luna power pack which has a split charger already built in and this is fitted with my Odyssey PC2150 battery, so it's suitable enough to power my ARB fridge and other options. Before connecting up to the vehicle battery, I just wanted to confirm that the G270 didn't have a smart alternator fitted ?
