Arm rest needed (the one on the door not the one on the seat)
Have had a closer look at the broken passenger side arm rest. The forwardmost plastic lug that takes the screw to attach to the door has broken and there really isn't enough plastic surface area to make a good enough repair that is going to take all that stress when closing the door.
It looks as though the part I want is just the long plastic part which I can then re-cover with my perfectly serviceable grey cover. The part number stamped on the broken part is 463 720 03 95 Li.
Does anyone have such a part for sale or know where I might be able to obtain one (I have a feeling new from MB is extortionate price).
Two inside door handles /armrests here (in Black) for Euro 55 for the pair
ebay item number: 291748764371
Oh bugger ! I got the wrong ones didn't I !
Well done Arnie !
But it's only the right one on offer within listing for 55euro
You got the correct handle though buddy ! Hats off to ya !
Thanks, but only if Mark requires black rather than grey, as they are the only ones I found.
I had exactly the same problem only that it was caused by the mechanic who worked on the window lifter. Anyway, I also used super-glue and taped the two parts together whilst the glue was curing. I told my wife not to pull there but use the lower horizontal section of the handle. 6 months later and the repair still holds. I understand that the replacement part is quire expensive, One can get lucky in the ebay, but must be prepared to re-spray them to the right colour; but I guess this is not the end of the world as we know it !
I used to cut a piece out of a drinks can and with thin screws use this as additional structure to repair the broken handles. I extended the metal to the hole on the door handle bolt so pulling the door in would give strength to a weak part.
Or get one of these plastic weld guys to effect repairs.
Thanks to both.
Have now effected a repair (of sorts). Used superglue to get the plastic parts back together and then fashioned a strip of aluminium to act as a brace.
Time will tell if it stands up to the heavy duty treatment handed out by my wife. Will try to ensure that my window is always slightly open before she pulls door closed as that means much less force required.
