Went to buy a second hand smallish box trailer for my G (as you do) but the trailer had a 7 pin electrical plug which was incompatible with the electrical socket on the back of the G.

Anyone know of an adaptor that will connect to both the trailer plug and the G socket to save me chopping off the trailer plug?

How many pins does your G have?

Strange not to have the standard 7 pin plug?

I guess it could have a Euro 13 Pin?

If so i can supply a direct 13 pin to 7 pin that should work for around £15 (MB)

You can eBay them for less though..

Thanks Gav,

G has a 13 pin - so have ordered one from Amazon @ £5.75 with delivery tomorrow (how do they do that?)

Frightened to ask - but how much would a set of MB side steps be for a SWB G463?

Hi Mark,

Just in case your trailer has LED lights make sure that all the signals work: sometimes the low current isn't sensed and the towing relay (double indicator on the dash board) doesn't light up and you think that there is a fault although everything is alright. No need to panic: for once the newer electronic solution really is better.........our older cars just can't recognise it.

Around £900, the last time I enquired from MB, some months ago. However, none available. either here or in Germany.

(The SWB G models have been out of production since about 3 years ago, and so maybe SWB side steps, too.)

Re: Anyone help re trailer electrics

Just an update - got this item from Amazon. £5.75 including delivery. Plugged in and everything on the trailer works first time.

I'll probably just leave it plugged into the G socket so it doesn't get mislaid.

Ah! - thanks Adrian. Hadn't thought of that.

I'll have to double check that all G lights still work with adaptor plugged in but with trailer disconnected.

If your truck is fitted with  Mercedes reversing beepers you may find by leaving the adapter in the bleepers  will stop working.

Re: Anyone help re trailer electrics

Many thanks. I don't think mine has beepers (or if it does then they don't work).

Have decided to keep the adaptor plugged into the trailer plug instead of the G socket. It still can't get misplaced and solves any G issues.
