Hi people!

I've got a project going on, replacing the engine on my tired old W460. The engine mounts are just one of the issues, and although I've heard people modifying the original 617 ones, mine are already in a pretty bad condition. That's why I started looking around different sources for new ones.

Fourbyfourclub.com offers a set of news ones, http://fourbyfourclub.com/W460EngineParts/W460EngineBrackets606.htm, and like new MB stuff, they are quite expensive. Before deciding, I naturally wanted to make sure they fit, and look up what item they are selling exactly. So I sent them an e-mail, and got a really weird response. I was surprised by the last part, to say the least. They expect me to just buy them and ask no questions? My response is also there.

Anyone had any issues with these people? Should one just walk away? Am I reading too much into it?

Dear Sir

Let me know  what you trying to achieve

Year and model of your G-Class and model of diesel engine you are trying to install and I will be to you with professional advice from company who made at least two dozen of this modifications for th last 20 years

If you want to use our knowledge as a source of the part numbers for your local purchase use you friendly Mercedes dealer for all parts number.

Best regards

That's a weird response. Nicely wrapped, but still rather offensive, honestly.

My project is really none of your business. But OK - I have a 1985 W460. Originally a M110, later swapped for an OM617.912, which was later turbo converted. Now I have an OM606.910 from a W124 as a donor engine.

It's pretty outrageous of you to expect your customers to blindly buy "a bracket, might fit" för several hundreds dollars while refusing to state the numbers and specifications of the item.

And you can bet I will check with every single available source for the best price and service, and frankly you are not doing too well so far.

Again, please state the OE-number of the engine mounts in question, or we're done here.

Regards

Hi There Interestingly I keep looking at parts from this company... but then end up using Guido who is on German Ebay as I have always had good dealings with him contact via ebay@industrytools.de Not sure on their reply. They do seem a bit off hand, but perhaps their english is not great and they have had a couple of bad experiences. However still no excuse for that attitude when, lets face it, their products are often pretty expensive. They do state in the product details that they are direct replacement for the existing engine mounts and quote your engine variant as one of the ones it is suitable for - OM606.910 but as I am guessing you already know where the engine came from could affect things like mounts. As you say. Not a very positive or helpful response from someone who wants €370+ from you. You might want to try Guido as is always vey helpful and at least it gives you an alternative - Also ScouseG (he is called Graham) as he is called on here has very good connections for this type of thing. I hope that helps Best Simon

Although their response ticked me off, I admit I could've kept it a bit more civil. Still, it's a strange way to deal with customers.

Oh well, time to look elsewhere...I got probably the last response from them:

"We definitely done here….. need to work with real customers, very busy for the last 20 years….."

Well at least during the dollar hay days my GW had lots of stuff coming from the US (shipping can be reasonable, depending on seller). Nowadays, its a bit more expensive, but some parts just aren't available - americans know aftermarket stuff.

My understanding is Gav is more than happy to advise and identify numbers, but for reasons nothing to do with him (change of mind in Merc about what commercial people can get upto) he can no longer source..

Oh dear... If Gav is no longer able to supply parts that would be a real headache. His knowledge is phenomenal and his efficiency and speed of supply are tops. Please tell us that this is just a temporary blip!
