Air Con Condenser repair or replacement needed
I have a 1989 280GE (Chassis No. 46023327065496) with what I believe is original AC. One of the condenser connections has sheared off.
Does anyone know where I can get a new condenser (pref not MB orginal, due to cost!).
Alternatively, I suppose the condenser could be repaired, but I'm not sure of the condition of the core.....
Any advice much appreciated - Suzie

I am awaiting on some replies from radiator specialists to see if they can repair condensers or see if some agricultural specialist could do the same. Replies expected Monday onwards.
Alternatively adapt a fitting of another vehicles' to fit into your G-Wagen. Mercedes Benz condenser for your vehicle is between some €600 to €800. Similar sized condensers can be bought from under £300 new.
I would strongly suggest somehow sealing the break you have from the atmosphere to protect the compressor from rusting internally if it is not too late already.
I am not getting any cross reference numbers - it seems Mercedes Benz have done a good job in licensing this aspect from after sales markets.
Had one fabricated in copper rather than the original aluminium in 2010 for £440 + VAT. Send me a PM if you want to know more.
I don't understand this............ ; for when a new air conditioner condenser is fabricated it is welded (aluminum) but when one talks of repairs most people say they cannot be welded for the high pressures involved. Some one is "telling porkies".
Making enquiries on your behalf, no one can cross reference the part numbers that I have and that, Gav gave.
One place:
http://www.northernradiators.co.uk/products/air_conditioning_condensers1...
has mentioned that, if you sent the old unit to them them may consider its state for repair or bespokely make you one (obviously welded out of aluminum but did not quote price).
Another supplier mentioned a figure of some £400 plus VAT, fitted. But vehicle has to be with them.
I do not see and one other specialist suggested the same; get another vehicles condenser, have adapted fittings and mounts to fit the G-Wagen. If you opt for this option choose a modern vehicles core pattern which is of a parallel tube and not a simple core pattern of tubes going up to down. The reason, for the new refrigerant gas charge is not as efficient as the old gas so the condenser has to be more efficient in heat transfer to effectively cool your gas charge.
Sorry, best I can do. Land Rover condensers are on average £155 - see link provided. Use G-Wagen condenser dimension to choose your replacement size condenser. Change the air dyer tank as well.
Let us know on how you have got on. Good luck.
Dont lets make such heavy weather of this -
carcooling.co.uk list 200+pattern fitments for MB with dimensions from £75.00
I have succesfully upgraded several 460's using lovely E300 parts [condensor and fan]
Dont expect any motor trade a/c outfit to be interested or cheap
Or go without
Thanks Gav
I think the MB original will be £££££s - any way you can get the BEHR part number?
