I've been blowing hot and cold about selling my G for several years. For reasons of health, I hardly use it. So I've finally decided it needs to go and as I really can't cope with tyre kickers, it has to go to auction.

Question is, what should the reserve be? It's '91 300GES two seats and decent twin tank LPG (full size petrol tank too). Very low mileage, looked after pretty well since I bought it (Nov '09)  and will have a new MoT.

Generally the condition is I would say reasonable for it's age, and it certainly runs very well. I had been thinking of a respray, but not now I guess.

I've had a look around at the ever diminishing RHD Petrol 463's for sale and the prices seem all  over the place. I havn't spoken to the auctioneers yet, but I'm not sure how accurate their assessment would be....

Any ideas folks?

Thanks.

It really comes down to that condition, and the provenance/history.  I think the SWBs are currently in demand (my preference also).  Auto or Manual?

I know you may not be able to entertain an inspection/look, but if you are not too far from Oxford up the M40 I'd like to take a look.  It would be a good holiday trip and  maybe take loads of pics for it and put it up on GWOA for you with a price (specifying no test drives etc).

Sorry I forgot they were ever made in manual. It's auto. I think the fact that it's a two seater will divide opinion. On the one hand it has a huge payload, on the other hand ripping out the twin LPG tanks to put in rear sets would massively reduce the payload and increase running costs.

I'm two hours away from Oxford, and I really, really, truly, deeply, hate car selling. The auction is at the end of January so unless someone wants to buy it sight unseen it's to the auction it goes. To be honest I'm not sure I want to put piles of pics up as I'm not that interested in a private sale. Life (what's left of it) is too precious :-) I'm just completely at sea on what the reserve should be.

Turn it into a van, remove the rear side windows and weld in some steel, 1 unique vehicle

Leave that as potential for the next owner. Good option.

For a reserve, I would guess at a respectable 8-9k  If someone buys under 10k, that sounds good to me, and may go for more on the day and depending on the actual condition, upto 15k I'd think.  The lack of rear seats may put off some, and attract others.  Its a nice colour too.

It may not be ready in time for auction. Currently sitting in main dealer awaiting a drag link. Not one in the UK and getting stuff in from Germany's a bit "fluid" at the mo :-(

The windows are already dark, so it sort of looks like a van already :-)

That sounds reasonable. I suppose I have to forget about the expensive extras, the Becker Indianapolis, the remote starting, Clifford secutrity etc etc. Possibly make it a wee bit more attractive at auction, if the drag link ever reaches these shores.......

Ian - you don't say whether or not you still have the rear seats, seat belts and fittings should a purchaser wish to re-instate.

No it had been converted when I bought it. I guess seats etc could be sourced, but the tanks would have to go. As it is, it has a tremendous range, and costs v. little to run on gas.

Re: Advice on setting auction reserve

Any update Ian? Is it still off to auction? If so, which one?
