Evening all

and a very happy 2015 to ye all.

I'm looking for a little advice and what basically would others do for the following repairs.

so far my digging around has been limited to the front of the vehicle. the back will be investigated in next few days.

so basically my problem ares are as follows.

starting with the windscreen,

the top of the windscreen is badly corroded, so much so it's letting water in.

water is traveling own the box section and into the sills. and floor in the front.

the rocker panel needs replacing as does some of the cross members

the drivers side is very badly corroded, holes in floor,

passengers side is holed but not as bas.

basically i'm looking for some advice on what the guru's would do,

would you

1. pay out the 600 odd quid a side for replacement floors, get new rocker panel, cross members and sills. and a replacement windscreen surround... you wouldn't see much change from 2k

or

2. cut out rust and fabricate repair panels/patches for the rusted area's. but the contours of the floor will be pretty much lost. just replace it with flat sheet metal.

3. try find cut offs of a wagen someone is scrapping

the pictures show the extent of what needs to be done.

any advice gratefully appreciated. hoping to get all this sorted in the first quarter of this year.

regards

Re: advice... body/rust repair

Hi

Mine is the same colour too lol

My advice is to buy a screen outer and inner panel via a good parts supplier on here

They are sensibly priced

The screen panel is critical and as i said i am doing that repair as we speak

The floor panels i would fabricate as there are no difficult to form pieces unlike a screen panel which must be correct and will ensure a good job

My g is all original and its odd how they spot weld the screen outer panel and mig weld spot the outer 2 foot each side on the outer lower panel

Plate and fab whats easy and buy the bits that will take ages to make and are critical

If you remove all rust and seam weld peices in you will get no more issues if you do it well

Its the sealing up that counts as any air means rust in a few years again

If you need any pics just pm me on a proffesional screen repair

Re: advice... body/rust repair

The floor on yours doesn't look too bad, it's the edges mainly where it joins the sill, problem is when you cut that out, you often find deeper issues and have to repair the top of the inner sill as well, not a problem, just time consuming.

On that floor above, I cut the recess out of the flat floor that I initially welded in, then formed the the cut edge for the recess and then welded a floor back in. If I were to do a lot more, I'd make a former and press the recess in.

The 'gills' under the right foot were formed with a hammer and anvil and various other formers, the complex shape that houses the body bolt and is capped with a plastic cap is a lot trickier than the floor recess!

Was all done sitting on a bare chassis.
