Hi

Has anyone had to replace their abs relay ? I have given the VIN to local MB main dealers and they come up with the wrong part. Mine - on my 1991 300 GDS-  is a little aluminium cube with 6 round pins and a Bosch part No of 0332205004 whereas MB keep offering me a 5 x flat bladed version under the MB part No of either A 0025427419 or A 0045450405.

Anyone know how to convert a Bosch part number to a MB number ? I've talked to Bosch UK who cant/won't give me the MB part number.

The MB relay is priced at £8-50p whereas Bosch are quoting me £48 !!

thanks

Tim

The MB dealer can decode the Bosch number

Bosch 0 332 205 004 = MB A001 542 67 19

£27.50 + vat MBUK have 2 in stock

5 in the network, Exeter, London, Stockton and Maidstone all have stock too

Re: ABS relay part number

Yep - I had been down to see him in Somerset to look at a 6 speed manual 460 last summer  and decided I would rather have a 463 auto so when he aquired this one and agreed to fit a 5 speed auto box I did the deal. He sorted the plumbing for the new intercooler and had the stainless side exit exhaust made up. Previous owner had already had the IP sorted.

The auto box has a stand alone controller which I have struggled with to try and sort the slight flair when changing 3-4 (Mark had already warned me about this) but now have updated controller software which intructs 'box to hold third until throttle opening drops to say 30%. This overcomes the problem of not having the electronic control system from the E class which would have cut the power for the gear changes.

It still has the old 300D diffs/transfer box and I've been thinking about putting larger wheels on to alter final drive ratio but not sure whether this would upset the ABS system. I know it would mean the speedo wouldn't read correctly.

I'd like to take it to a rolling road at some stage because it seems to produce about the amount of power that my old LHD 350 developed.

Latest snag is I just broken the bonnet release cable-retaining nipple in cab has parted from cable but I guess this is readily available.

thanks again for your help with relay part number

Re: ABS relay part number

Hi Tim

Glad Mark has sorted that truck, i new the previous owner too and although it was a great solid truck the conversion i think had been problematic and needed fettling, Mark was the man for the job!

Nice to hear too that you have sorted the controller software and it is a smoother drive, i know of another 2 guys with conversions in progress that have that controller to fit and were getting a little worried!

Keep up the good work!

Bonnet Cable is A463 880 00 59 @ £22.76 + vat MBUK have 1 in stock

The Handle is A124 880 01 20 @ £7.50 + vat MBUK have 1 again

Maybe worth just checking as the handles are prone to cracking / breaking where the Pip of the Cable sits

Re: ABS relay part number

I've looked at the little red plastic hinged handle and all seems well so will just order cable.

Controller I have is built by Ole Fejer who is very helpful and responds rapidly to queries even from obviously non techy people like me .

Mark has spent quite a bit of time sorting out the settings on the controller - you can stipulate engine revs/speeds for up and down changes and  adjust so that  changes  are not too hard and clunky but not so soft that the gear doesn't hold.

Mine is the model without the turbo boost sensor and is complicated enough - I think Ole designed the system for racing.

thanks again for part numbers

No, the original ABS systems are very basic (no ETS no ESP etc). There is also hardly any diagnostics on them, apart from the yellow light to signify some fault. Just requires working pump/valve-block and 4 working ABS sensors. So no, as long as all 4 wheels are the same size, no ABS faults in respect of larger or smaller wheels.
