One does not normally even create Stuttgart - six times to the moon and back - with a decent moon rocket. Who wants to know, how that creates a car, Gregorios Sachinides can contact the taxifahrer. The Greek from the city Thessaloniki reached with its nearly 30 years old Mercedes Benz 240 D a odometer reading of no less than 4.6 million kilometer. That corresponds to 115 earth orbiting and is according to DaimlerChrysler the highest well-known mileage of a Mercedes.

To the thanks the taxifahrer transfers the vehicle on Friday to the Mercedes Benz museum in Stuttgart, where it can be maintained, preserved and admired in the future. "this car saw everything, and in the soul pain-did to me to give the cars up - no miracle, after all the years", says the 45 years old Sachinides of the press agency AP.

1981 it had ergattert the cars with year of construction 1976 in Waiblingen with Stuttgart - with the goal of becoming in the northGreek city Thessaloniki taxifahrer. Three times the Greek changed the engine, the vehicle remained faithful for it. It transferred nevertheless now to Peugeot. The is a really fantastic story which everyone of us should read and then reread. I have always been of the view that the old West German cars were the very best ever and that although technology has improved it does not necessarily make a better car.

I have 3 cars, all mercs from the 1980's.

Any comments or arguements?

Yes, anything made by Mercedes after 2001 has the reliability of a Yugo Zastava
We all thought that the "merger" was meant to "Mercedise" Chrysler. Now I see that it's been about "Chryslerizing" Mercedes.

I run a 1991 W463 300 GD and a 1998 W202 C180 Estate. I don't think I will ever part with the G -perhaps only to get me a LWB. As for the other one, it will only be replaced with a W124 or a W210 estate.

Only 2.8something to go then. I've been driving my 240gd cab this week and it is an absolute dream of simplicity. C50,000 miles and as fresh as the day it came out of gratz. With the 5.3 axles it is very nippy, just have to change gear quite a lot. There is a purity and simplicity about it that is testimony to the vision that created it - it does what it is supposed to do and very well.
One happy bunny 8)

ps. all the girls smile too  and a disco owner stopped in town the other day with a big smile and thumbs up. As twodogs said "it has the series 1 factor and it's a merc"
