606, 463 Gaz conversion
Went for a spin in Gaz's 463 with 606 motor, unlike the majority of conversations Gaz has cleverly utilised the original donor Ecu and original pump making it super smooth. Despite only one exhaust box , engine noise was far less than I expected. Performance was mind blowing, unsure what upgrades Gaz has done but more than enough for most sane people, certainly twice as fast as my standard 603. Only problem is running out of gears and that was on fairly big tyres (245/85 16) no easy way around this one.? I know everyone raves how smooth the 606 is but on a properly sorted G, like this one( serviced/ rebuilt transfer box and back axle) I couldn't feel any vibration even on aggressive mud tyres. Even the temporary K and N filter just puts out a gentle wheeze under acceleration.
what ..no photos or video...selfish boy.
Ian, Here's a pic of Gaz's engine bay I took at the last agm. I didn't drive in it.
If I had the technical knowledge i would have always kept the electronic engine management. There was always too much BS and smoke and mirrors by some with respect to keeping everything mechanical.
Probably because electronics are beyond some people's capabilities and are actually super reliable.
Good job, i know this is away from G's, but has anyone seen two 606's using ecu's in a boat ?
If you look at second picture you can see throttle sensor and the white box under the blue air filter ducting contains the ecu,
Gordon was toying with the idea of a om642 and there is now one of them fitted in a boat too on youtube using an aftermarket ecu.
Hi Fellow g owners
I had help with sorting the ecu so it has my chassis number and egr removed by a top guy who i respect very much. He has listened to my rambling conversations too many times
I then bit the bullet and did it
You can run without its just the birds nest of wiring to contend with. Think big birds nests lol
Jason your g wagon needs to be next as it deserves it
Get a donor car and i will tell you all what we need, and no we are not going mechanical no iffs or butts
Well we could but you will save money and have more power and fuel economy using the proper electronic set up
Too easy lol
The pic is old but its basically the same apart from a lot cleaner and neater now, also my blue led indicator diode box is now stuck on with better tape than it came with and a little bracket too
I am going to make an airfilter box and ali tube and a little bracket tooit to the original inner wing duct by steering pump but i am not going to bother with an intercooler still
I fitted one that was plenty large enough but it only gave a minimal increaseto be honest and also air temp stays pretty good anyway in all conditions, so im keeping it little and simple
Yes i will do some pics i promise
G
Cheers Russ
You actually understand
Gaz
Hi Russ
That post could be taken the wrong way and im a bugger for that lol
I meant you are actually one of the few people who do see where i am coming from and are knowledgeable on the matter
G
Hey no worries, I got what you meant.

This one nice and black smoke free, really annoying when some rep mobile dumps a load of particulates in front of you when overtaking. I know all Diesels smoke but there are limits of acceptability
