1991 230ge 463 model

Recently I had a problem with my 5th gear but also happens while in other gears at time. When driving and going over 4500 rpms my Gwagen  will jerk forward and not registered anything until it slows down to 4000rpm and then it will drive like normal until it hits 4500 rpm and does it again. I feel as though it may be a fueling issue, that at high rpms it may not be getting fuel.

Whould this be a sign of a faulty distributer?

You're lucky - my 1993 463 only has 4 gears.

Well, 5 if you count reverse.

I suspect at 4500 rpm, you are reving the nuts off the engine and the rev limiter keeps cutting in.

Unless it should be 4,800 rpm?

Ah interesting that could very well be the problem. It usually happens when I hit pass the 4500 rpm marks though just two days ago it happen when I hit over 3500 rpm.

Re: 5th gear problem

It may well be the rev limiter. If possible after locating the fuel pump relay (rev limiter is built into the fuel pump relay). Rev the engine until it starts cutting out, you should feel and hear the relay clicking. If you hear the same noise when driving, you will know it your relay playing up.

Now having suggested that it is the relay If I am wrong I do apologise. My confusion is my memory plays up with me and I am not 100% which model has the rev limiter built in with the fuel pump relay.

I have just checked on the fuel pump relay for a 230GE apparently I am wrong on the limiter speed it is not 4500 or 4800 rpm but 6500 rpm. see:

Sorry.

Double check the rotor arm fitted on your 230GE; just incase someone has put in a rev limiting rotor arm as fitted to some VW on air cooled engines; one never knows.

Thank you, I went and borrowed a oem fuel pump relay and that solve the issue. I belive the one I was using was a bit faulty and causing the rev limiter to act at a lower rpm.
