Hi,

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Re: 463 Tank guard

if you want originality ignore this but when I has fuel leak issues with my w460 after taking the tank off, repairing the leaks and replacing the tank straps I fabricated a tank guard out of stainless steel I sourced from a local recycler, easy to do and cheaper than anything the factory churns out

I don't understand why your local dealer cannot order the part. I think the cost is around £600, which is a lot for what it is.

But if your local dealer won't help, Call Peter at MB Brentford, Parts Dept and they will send you one. (Ask for at least 10% discount)

The suggestion above to make one from stainless steel is not a bad one and if you have your original guard as a template, any local metalwork shop should be able to do that.

It could also be manufactured from 1/4" aluminum plate as the ORC ones are.

I think stainless steel tank were also available on this forum, if you need some new ones.

Re: 463 Tank guard

Apart from providing a bit of protection for the fuel supply pipe at the bottom of the tank, what is the purpose of the guard? Plastic tank is strong enough to skid over most things, still got my guard but does look battered, but at £700 it will stay that way

Re: 463 Tank guard

Thanks for the replies, £600 for the guard is too rich for me, so looking at stainless after market options. Even an ORC stainless steel guard is 2/3rds the cost of the Mbz one......
