My front bearings are a little wobbly (230ge 1985) so I'm going to have to tackle this job sooner or later, but before I go off and buy the bearings and seals has anyone got a recommendation on a set from a UK supplier? There appears to be many variants at very different prices, so I don't want to over spend and don't want to end up with a dodgy set either. Thanks,

PM me if you like

No UK supplier of good quality OEM that I would use!

I keep them here imported from Germany however

Gav will get you a reputable set. He is the go-to getter. It is not worth fiddling about finding bits here and there, imho. Best of luck with the job. It might take an hour or so but you'll do it.

This is a 5.0 to 5.5 hrs per side job. If you are in the area it worth renewing the King pin bearings & cups. You may find the CV boot split in which case you will need new boots and clips. It is worth doing both sides given if you have excessive wear on one side it is given the other side could be worn or likely to show wear shortly. Then you have the Inner & Otter hub seals together with swivel seal ring. All parts are also diff. number sensitive so you will need the diff. number off the axle as there can be some cut off point's at which part numbers change. Lastly you will need the Castle nuts special socket. W460/1 & W463 sizes differ.

Thanks for the info, job done both sides, and yes, it's amazing how the cv boots literally disappear! Torqueing up the hub nuts is a fun job, too tight, too lose. Think they are OK now but it was a bit of trial and error having seen various conflicting instructions. The hub socket I made, the original being a daft price. At some point I'll take on the rears.

Torque is 120Nm but I have managed that only once, my experience showed the bearing locked up well before the spec. so I stuck to 'FT' (Trade term - 'effing' tight). Tackling the rear bearings, these will need pressing off/on and even cutting off the centre race after the outer race is pressed out and collapses.
