280GE 1981 Exhaust
I'm hopefully getting my aging G on the road in a couple of weeks. When I bought it the rear exhaust pipe was in a bad state. I bought (in haste) a tailpipe for the 240GE which is a smaller diameter, but it enable me to drive it locally. I was later told that this would cause problems on longer journeys and may even get red hot!
I still cannot source the correct pipe, does anyone have any experience of using a a smaller pipe or where I might find the correct part at a reasonable cost. I'm in the south of France so transport is a bit of an issue. Thanks for any advice.

BUT ON MY 300GD I HAVE FITTED A BIGGER BORE PIPE
AND DID NOT PUT THE BENDS IN TO GO ALONG THE BACK BUMPER
JUST RAN IT STRAIGHT NO ISSUES PROBLEMS AT ALL
CHEEP AND EASY

I was gonna buy this myself as some clown has fitted a shite exhaust on my poor old 280GE (think it's come off a van or something) anyway I might just bite the bullet and get a bespoke one made all the way through including manifolds and terminating in twin side exit ? Dunno ?

HI TONY I CHANGED ENGINE 617 TO A 617A SO HAD A NEW STAINLESS ONE MADE
YES JUST TO THE SIDE OF THE TOWBAR BUT THAT STYLE WOULD SAVE YOU A LOT

Which part do you need...can do a Euro dealer search and see if anybody has one gathering dust!

I guess you could have the later "flexy" system fitted because of your trucks age?

I just need the tail pipe which is the same part number for both, mine doesn't look like its got any flexi bits in it.

Hi Gav, I've been driving the old girl round locally and the tail pipe gets very hot, I believe because of the slightly narrower bore, bit worried about longer trips with the pipe going over the fuel tank. Would you be able to do a search for me the part number is Tail Pipe A460 490 07 21

Hi tony, I think it is listed as the third one down described as 2.7 petrol.
But definitely best to check coz I am not an expert at all.

Thanks Neil, I hadn't come across this one, doesn't look like mine at the rear, my pipe goes to the offside, looks like this would come out under the door.
I was hoping to spend about £50 on this as there is a pile of other stuff to do!!
