25th Anniversary Treffen in Merklingen, Germany
Last weekend the 25th Anniversary Treffen was held in Merklingen, Germany, organized by the German Mercedes Geländewagen Club E.V.
The GWOA group was made up of Bill Moss (Off-road prepared 280 GE SWB), Jonathan and Phillip Cowan (in Jonathan’s G55 LWB RHD), Roly Iddison, Ian Watson and Mark (in Roly’s W463 300 GD LWB Auto), Howard Green, Gary and myself (in Howard’s alpine white G290 GD Turbodiesel SWB RHD) and Max Macarthur and Rakesh, who opted for flying to Stuttgart and turned up in a rented E200K. In addition, David Watkins joined the party in his brand-new G55 AMG LWB LHD which he had just picked up from the Geländewagen Centrum in Munich. 12 members and 5 Gwagens in total.
This was the biggest-ever GWagen gathering with close to 300 GWagens. We'll put the story and pics in an upcoming special edition of the GWIZZ.
Cheers

It was nice to see you there and meet you in personal. Due to the number of Gwagens (officially counted at 279- but they didn't count yours because you parked outside :-))
it was way to less time to talk to all of you. See you next time, maybe in the UK ??

Wow! amazing pics! and so quick! I have not had time yet to recover from the journey and download the 99 pics I made but these will surely be in my website fairly soon.
You are right, for such a short visit we did not have any time to talk to you but we had a wonderful time. We definitely need to organize something for next time.
Cheers
Wew already left on Sunday Lunch time. It was only a 7 hours trip back to Cologne. So plenty of time to relay.
Agreed, next time we'll set up some "side meetings"

nice story.
See you next time :-)
The only Bad thing : You may remember the Rangerover that was on the meeting. On Sunday the driver - after everybody had gone- took a testdrive on the terrain. She rolled to the side and hurt herself, so she must be taken to hospital. The Range is scrap but I heard that she is doing fine again.

Just a small correction to the report.
The lady driver of the Range Rover did not need hospital treatment, she was treated on the spot by a UK member who carried a comprehensive first aid kit,for minor cuts bruises and mild shock. She took the drive to re-establish her nerve after doing exactly the same thing to her LR 110 a year before.
The accident, which I wittnessed, took place on the long steep climb up from the lake and was caused primarily by a classic ecceeding the capability of both vehicle & driver, added to that advice given by a even less experienced person.
Having failed to complete the climb and come to a stop she was advised to attempt a reverse down, I would have advised a safer pull over the top, on reversing she lost her nerve lost control and the rest as they say was history.
The vehicle was comprehensivley written off and was uninsured, bad luck for the lady. but credit for having a go.
An old paratrooper moto applies here I think
Its better to be down wishing you were up than up wishing you were down.
