230GE Ignition Control Module
I'm trying to trace down the reason why my 230GE won't always turn off when the ignition is switched to off. When it happens the only way to kill it is dumping the clutch. I'm considering it may be the ignition control module. The unit installed is a Lucas DAB 418, 21411923. Does anyone know if this equivalent to other manufactures P/N's or what those with 230GE have installed? I'm having a tough time finding a replacement matching the Lucas number (I'm trying to avoid dealer prices).
Cheers
It seems very unlikely to be the ignition control module that does not allow your vehicle to be switched off; I would have suspected your ignition switch as the culprit here.
Does any thing else work that should not work when the key is removed?
Is there a relay that should switch off the ignition?
I have a 1988 230GE (not many left now)
I tend to agree with pistonhead. If no relay a broken or frayed wire or poor earth perhaps. There is a earthing post to the right of the steering wheel behind the inspection cover.
My module is a MB one part number 002 545 18 32. I suspect it is common to other M102 engines of that period so a breaker may be able to help. Surprised to see a lucas part.
Hopefully someone will be able to come up with a specific answer.
For some reason a live is maintained to your coil positive terminal hence your engine is not switching off.
Check the live feed at this terminal switching ignition On without starting engine and check to see if it switches off when key is turned off.
If the power is still there when turned off there is a problem from the ignition switch side; you say this has been renenewd which throws me. Is there another circuit wired into the coil positive that is supplying this feed? Disconnect and see what happens.
As a temprory measure wire-in a rocker switch in between the positive terminal andthe current feed to the coil; to turn engine off Kill the power at the rocker switch - of course wire the switch inside the cab or else you will forever be lifting the bonnet.
So pleased to learn that Thank you for the feed back .
The ignition switch was my first suspicion as well. I installed a new unit and there was no change. If I understood what exactly triggers the engine to shut down I think I could pin point it easier. My thought now is a faulty ignition module.
