 Hi Everyone
Just a quick question that someone may be able to help me out with, as not having much luck. Due to my car being a japanese import im unable to get the specs so was after some confirmation.                                                                                                                                     Does anybody have to hand or know which oils should be used in the transmission box and autobox along with the quantity.                        The chaps who do the work on my car wanted me to make sure 100% before they order it.                                         Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks Tom

Transfer box:  Comma EP80W-90  GL4  £4.99/litre  2.8 litres required

Diffs: Comma EP80W-90  GL5  1.8 litres for rear, 1.1 litres for front    Makes a convenient total of nearly 3 litres at £4.99/l (cheaper per litre if purchased in the larger containers but you don't need 5 litres)

Gearbox: Comma automatic transmission fluid AQM Mineral Dexron II at £19.99 for 5 litres or £4.99/l, not sure if I used 7 or 9 litres last time

Engine:  Classic 20/50 mineral oil changed frequently on the basis that that was what was commonplace when the engine was designed and it's cheap.

What do you sail?

Intriguing.  I have a Ninja moth, Imperium scow moth, home build moth just finished, Icon, and Dragonfly 800.  I have put a false floor in the back of the G after removing the rear seats which enables safe transport of the foils, and a net below the roof where the spreader and rigging goes. Here's a pic en route over the Pyrenees to the Mar Menor.

Your location is given as Essex, let me guess - TBYC?

Re: 1993 300 GEL Oil grades spec help

The important point is that the axles should be a GL5 oil and the transfer case a GL4 type, and not GL5. There semi and fully-synthetic Castrol oils in 75W 90  and 80W 90 grades that are suitable. The quantities are relatively small and the oils don't require frequent change that the extra cost is negligible for the better oils.

For the auto transmission, any fluid conforming to Dexron II or III specs are suitable, but I would chose a synthetic or semi-synthetic formulation. I use Fuchs SL6000. Don't forget to change auto transmission filter also and you'll probably also need a new sump seal.

Engine: Mobil One 10W 60 works well.

Finally, don't forget to grease the prop shafts. Very important.

Cheers Arnie, Must admit nearly forgot the shafts but they have filled them when I had them give the car a check over last week.                                                                                                                                                                                                   Like the sound of your dragonfly Consur, very nice. Im actually WMYC so a bit limited moth sailing so have a lowrider Wombat 84 (Andrew Mcdougall design) as have some nice mud banks. I seem to have collected far to many sailing toys though, just need more time to use them haha.
