Hello.

I changed the tyres on my G. Going from original 205 R 16 to 260/70 r16

I am assuming I need to change the angular gear for the speedometer to keep the milage and speedometer correct?

I think you will find that your new tyres will give you a 5% error in speed and recorded mileage. You will actually be traveling 5% faster and further than shown on the speedometer.

This is a relatively small error  (100kmh indicated = 105kmh actual) so maybe you are happy to live with that. If you are not then the simplest solution is to send your speedometer to be re-calibrated.

Thank you.

Most speedometers over-read anyway, by about 3% so  perhaps it will then be about right.

The easiest thing to do is check the indicated speed against a GPS. Then you will know. My old '92 speedo used to over indicate.

My speedo is out its traveling about 27mph when it reads 30mph that's what my Garmin satnav tells me that's if it's accurate.
