Hi All I have the dreaded heater blower that has started to scream at me in either of the three motor speeds on my 1990 W460 300GD.  Can anyone sign post me to a reasonably priced replacement? I’m going to do the work myself so don’t need any garage options.  many thanks in anticipation

Re: 1990 W460 300GD-Replacement Heater Blower?

Mine was stuck solid when I bought the car after being off the road for several years. There is a couple of holes in the centre hub of the fan blade that I used to squirt a load of WD40 into and managed to get it turning.

In the meantime I bought the T1 van version of the fan motor/blade, which I understand fits with minor modifications, but is far cheaper than the original.

Now, almost three years later, my original fan is still turning fine, so I haven't yet needed to install the replacement. So i'd try lubrication first if you haven't already.

This is the fan motor I bought BTW https://www.autodoc.co.uk/trucktec-automotive/7985848

There are a few forum posts about this and doing it is a dash out job.

From previous post.  Gav Helme is a good option to source from MB, or may even have a used one?

Seems there are 3 options:

Standard G Motor A000 830 13 08 £174 - 10% + VAT   - PROBABLY NLA

MB Sprinter T1 Van alternative A000 820 62 42 £132 - 10% + VAT - CHECKING WITH GAV for AVAILABILITY

Bosch 0130007064 dc motor    £48 or more.  CAN'T FIND on EBAY

Its a HELLA unit (originally) like here: https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/mercedes-benz/g-class-w460/856/10449/blower-parts?sort_supplier%5B0%5D=2    OUT OF STOCK

And that leads to a MAHLE here, which is in stock and looks the same? https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/mahle-original/15285402

I have done myself in the past (dash out, knuckles scuffed).  Use some heat on the plastic air box to soften the lugs all around it, so they don't break.  Replace the 2 resister coils (for 3 speed fan) if they look shot.

All still available, but prices probably double froom whenever that post was assume pre covid!

Tructec seems to be the value option readily available currently

G and T1 identical motors

As John says make sure you swap the resistor whilst in there, only about £30 from MB for the 3 speed type found circa 82/83 onwards (2 speed even cheaper) and you don't want to be going back in to do it later!

Are there any part numbers for the resistors at all?

I've got some cleaner I use for my guitar amps. I'll give that a whirl.
