I am buying a 1988 300GD SWB which has been imported from IoM, originally registered as new in Great Britain (England, I believe).   DVLA are currently processing the V5C so that it can be re-registered on the mainland.  I expect it will go back to its original plates.  The vehicle, although in great condition, comes with virtually no history.  I have been able to research a bit about the car, but I have a couple of questions that perhaps some of the members may be able to answer.  (Thanks, Spyder1V for your help and for suggesting the forum.)

Is it possible to gather history, such as past MOTs from the Isle of Man government?  The DVLA does not have access to this information.  I do not know if they will have the early MOT history before the car was exported, as the old number plate comes up as not found on their site.  Perhaps if they reallocate the plate the history will appear, but i am not holding out much hope.  IoM history would be more recent, if accessible.

I have spoken to HPI and they cannot say anything about outstanding credit, etc. for outside of Great Britain.  In other words, they cannot help me,  As I am buying from a dealer and am assured they can guarantee clean title, I am a bit less worried, but if anyone knows more about getting information in this area, that would be great.

In the past I was able to recompile the service history of a Jag XJ by finding the dealers that serviced it and then sending the service book to them for stamping.  I worked great, but I have a pretty good idea where the car had 'lived'.

I am looking forward to meeting some of you soon.

Thanks,

Dan
