Ever since I have bought my white 300GDS I have claimed that I have the slowest G on the forum. That changed when I fitted the 606 n/a engine and then changed some more with the Myna tuned 606a with bigger turbo. The G now goes better than my 500 went, and it sounds awesome.

Well it turned out that my G most probably wasn't ever the slowest G on the forum, I just discovered a 20% speedo error. What is surprising is that I only ever got 2 speeding fines in the UK, me one and my wife one. (36 and 38 m/h) (I run 35" tyres)

With the Myna engine the car runs out of revs at about 120, which is way to fast for a 20 year old brick, so the 606n/a engine will go back if I can get a buyer for the Myna engine in SA.

Other than that we are all fine on this side of the world, and the G is still better than my Isuzu.

Re: Slow G

Didn't matter how slow it was, it still took out a Saxo, so there is hope for you yet over there. Hope you are all enjoying it

Re: Slow G

That's spurred me on..  you're the only person I know with a myna superturbo G..  I plan to join you next year (I'm shooting for 300-350 with 6.5mm and Holset HX35,  but a new baby this month has just delayed my shipment to Myna :D

Spider, you are on when I'm done.

I keep meaning to ask you though about gearboxes - what did you fit in the end? I'm suprised that you run out of headroom on 35"s :0

I have a sprinter 711.620 with solid fly wheel conversion ready which is good for ~270Nm. I keep wondering though whether a 530D manual box (good for 1000Nm I  understand is a better idea, though more work to adapt bellhousing.

Re: Slow G

I used my standard manual gearbox, but although I have been told it could handle just about anything this is not true. I have already had damage to my 2nd gear. When shifting up or down to 2nd with high revs it scratches and wouldn’t go in.

I have about 4500 usable revs, it will rev up to about 5500, and possibly higher, but I don’t have the bottle to try. At about 120 I reach 4500 and then the wind resistance becomes too much. I am sure it would go further if you have long straight stretch, but I don’t have a pilot’s licence, so I do not have any wish to try.

All in all I have overspent many times over on this silly little car, this is my 5th engine for instance, I have dropped it on its sides 4 times, fitted it with 3 different sets of suspensions, currently on ORC +2”, tried 4 sets of wheels (285 75 16 works best), but I enjoyed it very much. I think the car probably owes me about £25k at this stage, so one could reason that I should have bought a 500, but where is the fun in that? Been there got the t-shirt.

Re: Slow G

 Brilliant, my sentiment exactly :D

120 is more than enough. How quickly does it get to 60 would you say?

Interesting what you say about the gearbox.  I had also been assured that a MB gearbox would take it and  I had purchased a sprinter 711.620 5 speed manual box which was ready to go along with a solid flywheel conversion..

After a visit by the pikeys a few weeks ago though I no longer have it, but now I think based on what you have said I will again investigate the BMW 530d gearbox option which I understand is almost indestructable (1000Nm of torque).

It's a big conversion though I think as you can't use a bellhousing adapter which means a 'cut and shut' between the housings. This guys has some pictures OM606 to GS5-39DZ conversion

Re. suspension - also on Orc springs/ Bilstein with a 50mm lift. I plan to move to fox adjustable next year. Tires are 33" MTs on a 15 CW rim. 16 would be preferable (if I win the lottery - some hutchinson beadlocks maybe :-) ).

Why do you prefer 33" to 35?  is is drivability? I would have thought the gearing better for your truck?

Re: Slow G

I prefer 33's because with 35's you struggle a bit in 1st. I would use a MB Box again, but not with 35, and I would drive it as though I am trying to break it.

I'll fix my MB box and put it back again.

Re: Slow G

Do you know what ratios you have now?

711.620 sprinter box is :  5.05 | 2.6 | 1.52 | 1:1 | 0.78 | R4.76
BMW GS6-53DZ is: 5.08 | 2.80 | 1.78 | 1.25 | 1.0 | .84 | 2.81

I have been playing with this gearing calculator:

For 711.620
http://www.solemnwarning.net/transmission/?id=138

For BMW GS6-53 DZ 6 Speed
http://www.solemnwarning.net/transmission/?id=139

Subjectively (I am no expert!), gearing with 35" looked OK - assuming modified engine curve is ~2200 - 3500 range

What do yo think?

Re: Slow G

I made a mistake, it revs up to 5500, going over 6000 and I am quite sure it will go over 6500, but then it sounds ready for takeoff.

I have no idea of my ratio's, sorry.
