I've created a G Wagen tribe on Drive Tribe if anyone is interested in joining:
https://www.drivetribe.com/t/fa-Iw1WuQ1eLTR9eNNd0fw/BhvdYeI2TMaHQ4Atsukt2A
Needs 10 members to make it public!!
Seems like you can only sign in/register with facebook.
Not much good for us non facebookers.
I don't use facebook either its a very clever form of spyware and data harvesting, best avoided if you can
The depth of the material that Facebook mines is extraordinary. You may be correct re Google but I don't share my deepest secrets or every trial and tribulation in my boring life on it in the way that Facebook users do.
This an area I have worked in for 20+ years... If you want no footprint - and I realise this was about avoiding some of the deep data harvesting. Then buy a basic mobile with no 'Apps' of any form on a pay and go contract. Drive an old car with no satnav. Don't send emails, because you can't have an email account. Don't own a smart TV - yes they do 'listen' to what you do and if you have a TV don't buy or connect to any digital channels or services. Only use a landline to make calls, or better still send letters.
Oh and of course as the most watched nation in the world with an increasing use of facial recognition being used - so coffee shop staff can say hello to you by name when you come back - go out in disguise and pay by cash - which is being targeted for being phased out in 10 years - so we all need to pay by bank card. Oh and of course when you do go out don't drive on motorways (gantry cameras) and avoid Police cars with ANPR....... etc etc..
I say all this as a data marketer so I do use this 'stuff' to get things done for clients. One other reality is though that whilst I can tell from 5 webpage views how you will vote and if you like a drink (95% confidence - so of course we can't use the voting bit - other than to spot voter irregularity in dodgy countries), there really is that much information on all of us - and where there are gaps on individuals algorithms can fill them in - that in many cases it really is wood for the trees..
I would just breath a sigh of relief that we do live in the UK, as despite our moaning - at times - we have a politically independent legal system that keeps legislation/politicians in check, even if we don't agree with some of the outcomes..
Just a thought - he said on a website using a personally identifiable and geo-locatable to within 1 meter lap top, that is connected to all my other devices virtually :-))
Simon666,
Thank you for your informative input; we do live in sacrey world. I had no incline that IT has so much passive control over our lives.
I joined, bit of a waste of time really. Nothing on there that facebook doesn't do better
Unfortunately tracking and spyware is the norm for nearly every website you visit, due to third party cookies, Google Analytics and a million other technologies you don't realise are underneath nearly every site on the web. This is how retargeted advertising works.
You would have to make a concerted effort to remain private, just avoiding Facebook or other cherry picked sites is not enough.
Just sayin'.
