463 1991 lwb brake upgrade
hi ive just purchased my first g wagon and am in the process of doing it up
i want to up grade the brakes all round and change the rear brakes from drum to disk . idealy i would like to fit a brembo brake system any one done this or has anyone heard of a company that can help look forward to your replies cheers john
Sorry for the irrelevant reply... do you have any photo of your new G? ;) ;) Looking forward!
Hi Later G's have rear disk brakes fitted as standard.. the handbrake uses shoes mounted behind the rear disks.... could be a cheaper/less hassle way to go.....your existing brake system may need component changes due to long term internal corrosion from moisture contaminated hydraulic oil to bring them back to 100% efficiency.....I see no advantage in doing expensive brake modifications to what is a very efficient system...10 miles more to the gallon would be a better modification!!!
Hi with no electronic fuel management on the G' wagon it is nigh impossible to fit any late model engine successfully.wiring looms and interfaces with G'box, propshaft and exhaust means that the cost and time involved dictates that the host vehicle must cost very little..the best things about owning a G' is its provenance and originality. good original RHD GEL or GDL 463 G's are few and far between...1991 to 1995...chopping one about is just one less of a very limited marc.......
more powerful... get a M104, but it is not more fuel efficient for sure!
Hi is it the LWB silver one that sold recently on Ebay.if it is I know the vehicle as it was after the fire...my estimate was GBP 8500 in labour and parts to get it back to an MOT standard....less if you could find all the interior components from a wrecked 463. the Zebrano wood trim is Euro 3500 from MB before you start to look at the looms relays abs etc and an interior...I wish you luck!!!! ......
Hi Would a rolled 463 LWB GEL not to far away from you with all the wiring engine and gearbox dash etc but no interior... at the right price!!! help..pics to your Email
Given the state the car was in to start with I think it's a great project to undertake and wish you all the best with it. Keep us posted.
What about a merc 270CDI engine? Could probably pick up an ML with one of them for less than a BMW 530d. The BM is the better unit though for sure.
cheers i,ll look into later model rear disks but i,m also looking to upgrade the engine to a bmw 3.0 l diesel wich i want to tune up has anybody done sutch a mod
