Max tyre on 463 standard rims
I am running my 460 on 245/75 16 Goodyear MT/R, but now I need to get proper wheels on the 463.
It has standard alloys with 225/70 16 on at the moment, which is as good as condoms to the pope to me.
Has anyone tried to fit 265's onto the 463 alloys? I don't want to order tyres and then they don't fit.
I have had BFG AT 265/75 16s on my 463 for a few months now and they are great. No problems at all. In fact the car has a little less roll due to the extra tyre width and the square shoulder of the BFGs. The only thing to watch out for is the increase in gearing which makes the speedo underread by about 8%. You may also get a little increase in fuel consumption due to the extra drag.

265's are for girls, fit 325's and man up. :D Unfortunatly BFG don't make them for a 16" rim so not much good to you.
Did you fit them to the 6.5J rims?
Hi, no my rims are 7J. I have been running 325x60x15 BFG KOs on my standard Merc 463 15x7J wheels for nearly seven years with no problems.
The clearance is good all round even under heavy articulation. The lateral movement of the vehicle is increased under cornering as the tyre walls deflect more than they would on a fatter rim. However unless you like driving your G in a 'spirited' manner on the road this is not much of an issue. Off road the more rounded sidewall gives added protection to the alloys.
A lot of my off road driving is done on peat bogs and I find that the extra fat tyres help to reduce the ground pressure and stop that sinking feeling!
Big tyres and narrow rims may not be by the book but it works for me. Hope that helps. Doug.

If you G is fitted with the standard 463 alloys, these were 6x16" and the maximum you can safely fit is 235/85R16. But there is very good rubber in this size in the market.
Here is my 463 on 265/75 R16s. They fit the alloys pretty well. MB seem to recommend tyres up to this size as they are shown on the pressure chart on the inside of the fuel filler.
I've got 275/75 on my standard alloy rims (think they are 7.5 ") and have no clearance problems at all. apparently, one can even fit 285/75s on the 7.5" rims, but you'd have to upgrade the suspension (i.e. 2" lift) as articulation would suffer too much. By the way, my land rover is on R16 7" rims and I've had both 285/75s and 255/85s on it: both were OK (the former not being recommended - but I had no problems at all in 2 years of running with them on). If you want height, the 255/85 is the way to go, but they really sap the torque out of the engine and you loose too much top end speed on anything but a really powerful engine(also towing uphill is a REAL burden). Hope that helps/ph
Don't know what the rim name is but its the flat face one. The 265/70x16 or 265/75x16(taller) go on perfectly onto that.
The 255/85x15 (taller again)also fit with no difficulty or rubbing. But note the power issue is applicable to all bigger wider tyres you fit.
The 235/85x16 on the 4 spoke OE rim is right on as Morty said.
At the end of the day a modern tyre fitting machine will fit just about anything onto the rim for you. You just have to decide what way you want to go.

Mike
