Tyres for 18" Ashtaroth wheels on G300TD LWB
Calling all tyre experts,
I looked thru' all 6 pages of this section and can't find the answer to question so I'm posing it hopefully new.
I'll soon need to replace the tyres on my G300TD LWB which has 18" MB standard Ashtaroth alloys fitted. I understand all the arguments for going down to 16" (ride, cost of tyres etc...) but I'm not in position for logistics and cost reasons to do this.
I'd like to fit an All Terrain tyre and BFGoodrich seems the best choice but now the question of size.
I'd like to up the aspect ratio from the current "60" (265/60R18) to something like 70, 75 or even higher if possible on the basis that this will improve the ride (more tyre between rim & road). On the width, slightly wider sounds to make some sense 265, 275 or 285 (assuming I can get my hands on them are also fine) . However, does anyone have any recommendations as to the best combination?
If I go higher on the aspect ratio and keep to 265 at some point I guess they will rub on the chasis or wings (on full steering lock), but how high before I've a problem? The same I assume if I kept the aspect ratio at 60 but went up in width to 275, 285 or wider, the same problem will occur?
My car is low mileage and gets used on the road (60%) and off-road (40%). The off road is a combination of mud (not extreme) and very rough stone tracks.
I'd really appreciate any help, thoughts or ideas.

My recommendation in response to your question is:
265/65r18 BFG All terrain available from your local tyre stockist.
If you want to see what your 300td will look like with them on then take a look at the "castlecoole" gallery on this forum. You will see my G wagen with these tyres fitted(91G reg).Std size on these rims was 265/60x18Yokohama, so these are the same width but 5% taller than OE. They actually look more due to the tread design.
To date no problems with fouling or arches or on full lock. Apart from having the raised white letters showing (they can be mounted the other way round if you don't like the look). I have on choice in this matter at the moment. I think they look very well and no issues with excessive road noise on the roads around here.
Checked the speedo against my GPS unit and all seems as displayed on the clock. I tow a bit sometimes with another G wagen on the back of a trailer and no issues there either.
