Has anyone had recent dealings with these people?

I've spoken with him but never had any proper dealings.

Seems decent enough but a bit slow to respond the few times I interacted with him.

But I think spider deals with him a fair amount...

Well I brought my G500 off of him and have been happy with the service I have received to date. Guaranteed he is slow at getting back/returning calls, however I found it best to arrange the time and go and see him.

Good solid collection of G Wagens, not as expensive as some other I could mention. Has found it hard as the previous owner did leave some issues, which has tainted him, more by reputation than anything James has done.

I have recommended him to a number of people, again I think the main frustration is getting him to return calls, but as there is only him running the business, one can see why. He will return the call, but maybe up to a week! I do have an email for him if would like it - PM me and I will pass it on.

before posting your gripes for all to see, I would suggest you let him know your intentions, as there are always 2 sides to a story, as any bad vibes spread on here can do damage, sometimes unjustly!

Im not speaking on James behalf, I have never met him, but the web can be damaging, rightly or wrongly !

Re: G-Wagens for sale

I was in at Mercedes Benz in Salisbury today and couldn't help noticing they had a fairly tasty used Obsidian Black G350  with a few Brabus extras on it.

I was also advised that their Poole (Dorset) branch has a brand new Obsidian Black G350 Bluetec available.

If you have cash-to-splash - and I mean serious cash - you may find them of interest. Salisbury's vehicle is around £89K and Poole's is at a refreshing £92.5K. The mind boggles, specially as the brand new one offered by Poole has now been superceded. A discount, maybe?

Re: G-Wagens for sale

I found James very helpful but I did have to tell him he was rubbish at admin! He supplied me with new and secondhand bits when I had my crash in January. One of the new parts that was nearly £300, turned out to be the wrong one so he got me a new one, sent it to the body shop and let me post the other back later which was trusting. I also had a couple of other bits that I took back to him, that I had not been charged for unless I used them.
I do gather he had a bit of an uphill struggle with the previous owners reputation, but I'd trust him
And it is the sort of place you could rummage in for hours

Re: G-Wagens for sale

Well I'm still waiting for an indicator stalk he promised to send me. Many many phone calls and emails were exchanged about this, the last being two years ago. At that point I gave up as I became very ill. Oh, and I also got a parking ticket for a CLK55 that I p/x'd with him.

Nice enough guy but he does not do what he says he will and it takes a huge amount of time and energy to get him to do what he does eventually do.

Communication is I find generally enhanced if people have the courtesy to respond to enquiries. But there you are, I must be terribly old fashioned.

He talks the talk well but I saw little evidence of walking the walk.

Altogether, a place I would now avoid.

If you are reading this James, you still owe me an Indicator stalk, a gas point cover and a battery clamp.

Re: G-Wagens for sale

When I first bought my G I did a LOT of research on where was best to take it for servicing. I wasn't looking for the cheapest or the most local. I just wanted someone who would do what I ask for a fair price. I even posted on here asking for advise (thanks for all your responses). In the end, after talking to a few of the recommended parties, I took it to James for a services and an MOT.

The MOT highlighted a few bits that needed looking at and I was called before any additional work was carried out and given prices.

The service came in at the exact price I was quoted. They even replaced an electric window switch that was faulty that I had said not to worry about....... for nothing!

The car was ready when they said it would be and had been cleaned. When I dropped it off to them i had to get a train home (to Kent), I was taken to the station and when I went to pick it up I was picked up from the station. Not only did they pick me up and drop me off, they were happy to do so!

Since then I have only ordered one part from them............ and that came in earlier than they quoted!

As for communication....... I cant fault them. I ring up and they either answer or call me back.

Cant really think of anything negative to say to be honest. I was happy with the service I received and will be taking my G to no one else. He is also a nice guy who is happy to make you a cup for tea and talk about G wagens all afternoon!

Paul

Re: G-Wagens for sale

I'm very glad you did not suffer the experiences that I did.

In fact I have only mentioned the tip of the iceberg, there were other more serious issues that I have not gone into.

I note that he no longer has any G's listed in stock.

Re: G-Wagens for sale

I'm very glad that you too had a good experience with "these guys". I did not. My dealings, unsatisfactory as they were, were with soley with James Lafferty. He is very well aware of what he did and, more importantly, what he did not do. He may, like me, have kept all the associated paperwork and emails.

By the wayJames, if you are reading this, I was wrong, it is two gas point caps, not one. You know it's never too late to right a wrong, do get in touch and I'll give you the outstanding list for payment .

I won't contact you as your record, in our dealings, at returning calls or responding to emails is woeful. You know this is the case in our relations because I have pointed it out to you many times. Nevertheless it would be rather nice if you did cough up for the blinker switch, the caps, and the strap, a tad under £300 squids I would have thought. Not exactly a fortune.

Re: G-Wagens for sale

This thread is long gone, but just been in touch with James and the business is still passionate with his Gs alongside other prestige motors. Buy, sell, parts, service etc.

I have dealt with him over 15+ years, on and off and always helpful to me.  Yes, slow on communications, but flexible and honest and one of the few that has a long history with Gs of all types.
