As many of you know, I have now fitted XZL 750x16 on my 280 SWB and am very pleased with them.

However, as they are larger and heavier, will they have the effect of slowing the G a bit (I know they will alter the gearing)? I thought I read something that fitting bigger heavier tyres had this effect.

On an unrelated topic. How do you know when the fuel filter needs changing? Mine has been on 5 years and I do run the tank to close to empty before filling.

Hi If the fuel pump makes a moaning noise or if the power of the engine begins to drop then change the filter and flush the accumulator.

It doesn't do either of those things. How do you flush the accumulator?

Re: My new tyres

MB recommend 60k for filters but they also have a life of 4y. It certainly will do no harm and I don't think that they are that expensive on the 280. The 500 is close to £80

£33 for the 280. Fram do one for £22 but I am not sure it is the same size.

Re: My new tyres

Hi Dan,
Sorry to confuse the issue, but, fuel filter renewals are scheduled at every 36 ooo miles for a 460 chassis but as you are driving under cleaner atmospheric conditions you may by your choice, extend, this interval to about 50 - 60ooo miles or sooner, if you are experiencing starting or power - loss problems.
As far as I am aware there is no benefit to be had in flushing the accumulator. But I would choose to, at least two to three times a year add fuel cleaner additives to a full tank of fuel to help keep the injector tips and valve areas clean.

Regards,
