My G is due for it MOT and I need to decide whether to fit a new steering box or try and adjust the current one.

Which direction do you adjust to take up the slack in the system, clockwise or anti-clockwise?

Thanks

Hi not just as easy as that....first jack both wheels clear of the ground and rotate the steering wheel fully left to right.if the play is in the box and not the drag link /trackrod ends or drop arm then observe a nut on the top of the box with an allen key threaded fitment protruding from it...slacken the nut... whilst holding the fitment with the allen key and move the fitment Clockwise two or three degrees and nip up the nut rotate the steering wheel left to right and check the play..repeat but ensure completely free travel of the steering wheel left to right at All times..***Note-: sometimes the box will develop a leak at the bottom because of the changed geometry within.......time then to think about overhaul or another box....

... and removing arm from steering box to fit new seal can take some doing.. 10t Sealey hydraulic puller, plus gas, 5 days.. and 4lbs club hammer on side a lot to loosen it... and then it came off with a big bang.

Resealing seems OK but I used 1000 wet and dry + oil to recon the shaft in place.. not gone anywhere but the replaced oil has not leaked yet..
