Hi Guys,

Thought I should probably sign up to the relevant local authority. We've just bought a 2007 G55 AMG which we're expecting in the next two weeks. The car is a left hand drive (to take to Europe) bought from Germany, and is black inside and out.

Although its been a while, this isn't my family's first foray into G-Wagen ownership. My Mum used to own one nearly 20 years ago when I was but a wee toddler!

Since then (and i'm guessing you're not going to like this bit), we've had a series of Range Rovers, and I personally drive a Defender.

Hopefully my Land Rover affliction won't affect your opinions of me too much!

Cheers,

OJ

Re: New Guy

Thanks! :D

I'd be lying (obviously) if I said the Landy was a picture of quality and reliability, but I like it none the less! Looking forward to driving the G though. My Defender has a hot hatch busting 193bhp BMW engine, but this should enable some proper Porsche scaring antics!... In a straight line of course

Shaun - The car is actually a few months old. We're told its an 'Ex-Stuttgard Management Car'. Only a few thousand kms on the clock but a pretty significant saving in price over a brand new one, even if we have to pay the ridiculous 3 grand suggested for the seats.

Pics attached, hopefully they won't appear hooge

Re: New Guy

Actually I believe there may be a David Bailey in the Mercedes Dealer in Stuttgard... There's more of a Bill Bailey in me

Yeah, i'm really looking forward to it. It was just absolutely perfect for what we wanted it for. Image, long distances, seating 7 people (eventually), going skiing, going fast, etc

Re: New Guy

there's one thing you forgot to mention about your new G55, ITS A KOMPRESSOR, big difference.

Re: New Guy

Too true. I can't expect to scare Cayenne Turbo drivers with talk of a mere 350bhp

Re: New Guy

No Bull Bar! You dont need a kompressor to pass or frighten a Cayanne! JUST A AMG 55

Re: New Guy

What a great looking car! If it is like any of the other Mercedes AMG’s I have driven before (Esp the ML’s) you are;

1. Going to love that sound
2. Embarrass a whole load of people – especially the ‘boy racers’
3. Get very envious looks from most Porsche and RR Sport Drivers
4. Probably rack up a few points :(
5. Have a smile on your face every time you get in it! :D

(Points 2 & 3 – especially if you go ‘Q’ and take off the G55 and just leave the AMG – they tend to think you have gone for the ‘Body + Plastics’ package  )

Forgive the Newbie question but do AMG G’s come in Kompressor and Non Kompressor engines? And if so what is the difference, is it just BHP? :?:

Enquiringly (and enviously)

Ultra Newbie question now...

Which provides? Bigger BHP (Number?) and better on road/off road handling?

Re: New Guy

The G55K is more powerful - significantly. As for off-road? The G55 marginally but really unless you're in Dubai then neither. They sit too low and on the G55K you can't stick any rims on it smaller than 18" due to the brakes. The difference in ride is pretty significant between 18" and 16".

Re: New Guy

Same problem with the old AMG ML’s.
