front drag link and track rod end needed for MOT
Failed MOT on front track rod end and drag link called just track in maintenance manual (can I get new dust covers for either end)
Tried Mercedes in Reading and even with vin number they were not sure which part number was right They seem to suggest it was one whole bit
The part number is possibly A460 324 07 0450 according to them. They said they had to contact mercedes but no response as yet. Any thoughts of sourcing or how to deal with problem as I am now really "off road" Gary
Gary look in the members area (if you are one!!) at my posting about the EPC....worth its weight in gold.......saves you relying on Greenoaks.....
Without your VIN it is virtually impossible to tell: there are a number of different configurations depending on the chassisi number.
You can get dust covers for Transits.. and they fit.
Need some MIG wire if your C clips are rusted out (they probably will be).
Trouble is.. most cases the joints are knackered if the boots are gone as folk just keep on driving.
Transit track rod end dust boot from Pearl for 53p each !!!

I think I have a brand new one of those in my spare parts cupboard. Pretty sure it was just for a 463, tho' the Ad says it does both.
Research that and drop me a line.
Heavy bugger tho' shipping might be prohibitive.

Beware:
1) I am not sure whether it is in the steering bar or the track rod but on one side at least it is not possible to change the joint, you have to replace the whole bar!
2) Both steering bar and track rod are different in RHD to their equivalent versions in LHD so definitely those sold on German Ebay will NOT fit your G (unless that is that yours is LHD).
3) Some of the joints (there are male and female) can be source from the Ford Transit part, but I don't know exactly which one. Perhaps somebody can help.
I seam to recall that some of these parts have a version in LH thread, just to complicate things more.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant with male and female.
I suggest that you get underneath your G and assess yourself whether you need to replace the bar or some replaceable joints. If it is the bars, the only source is MB. If it is the joints, then try German Ebay. I have seen both the male and the female there.
I have been looking for drag link ends for my truck. www.speed-autoteile.com do them for 24.8Euros each. You need left hand and right hand ends - threads are different. These parts are also used on Fords. The Ford part numbers are as follows:
LH 5 021 447, 6 163 544 or 6 792 901. (3 numbers for the same item)
RH 5 021 446, 6 163 543 or 6 792 900.
These are the same as MB nos 000 460 73 48 LH and 000 460 72 48 RH.
Mike.
Thanks for the info so far mine is RHD so will beware German Ebay Mercedes seem to think it is the whole bar that has to be changed although the manual refers to it as track rod components with the main track (a big bar) connected to the off side wheel at the front and linking via a smaller rod called the clamp which is held on to the main bar via two clips. It then looks as if the swivle joint fits into that and is connected to the nearside wheel at the front. I hope I am not misleading anyone but I need to replace the whole bar and getting in a right muddle Cheers gary
