Anyone know what this is? If yes what’s its function?

Appears to be some sort of damper between the fuel pump and the inlet manifold. When I detached it it had no resistance so if it is some sort of damper it isn’t doing its job anymore.

Hi Russ. Yes it is a damper and is there to prevent too rapid a close or opening of the injector pump, an early way of preventing that puff of smoke when you accelerate or slow, if there is no resistance you should replace it.It also smooths out tick over by preventing fluctuations in the linkage.

Re: Throttle Damper?

That manifild looks like 6 cyl to me, but there is one fitted to my 617A engine which is a 5 cyl and was originaly an automatic.

Re: Throttle Damper?

Well spotted Bill. Don't think I could go from a 280 to a 5cyl. unless it was turbo'ed and intercooled!

Re: Throttle Damper?

I have been meaning to come over for a while now to see all the turbo engines flying around the workshop. Great to see all the pics. Family affairs and work keep me around here. Wales was a great oportunity to catch up with some of the guys and talk Gs for a bit.
Hope to try to get there before Christmas. Staying up 'til 4am is way past my bedtime

Re: Throttle Damper?

I have just checked and that damper is missing on my engine. After checking the EPC, it should be there and is p/n A 601 070 13 67. Don't worry Roly, it is listed only for manual models, autos have a different setup. I don't think that I will fit one: at € 19.64 + VAT I don't think that it was doing much 'cause I am not missing anything.

Many thanks for your kindness Bill. Once a Gentleman, always a Gentleman. And merry Chistmas to you too, though I suspect that we will read each other before that happens...
