To all "G" owners, friends, Romans and countrymen.

I have joined your wonderful association in the desperate hopes that ye can help me fulfill my ambition on purchasing a post '91, LWB, 463/300td in RHD. I have toiled long and hard over the various web sites and publications in my search for my ultimate G, but as yet to no avail.

I look forward to corresponding with fellow members in the hopes of someone, somewhere over the rainbow or elsewhere finding, selling or hearing of a suitable vehicle.

Regards,
Tyreman

P.S. Guess what I work at?
:D :?: :)

You will be toiling long and hard for awhile then. There were no factory turbo diesels 463s ever made in RHD at any time..... aftermarket yes.

Re: I all I've just arrived

There now you see first posting and I learn something I didn't know before. Thanks Maxwell

The idea of a left hand Drive had crossed my mind, but I would like to try for a RHD first even if it isn't from the factory. One of the recommended turbo aftermarket jobs would do me provided it was done correctly.

By the way who are the merc approved turbo installers? As I have a TD5 and am used to all the power......

Regards,
Mike

Re: I all I've just arrived

I don't think there were any officially approved turbo installers. Brabus possibly... the only other people who did turbo conversions were TB Turbos here in the UK (check the Diesel section of the forum) and a company in Sweden (ST Turbos I think) who no longer do it.

If you are going to do a conversion a couple of things to note:
1) turbos conversions are I think a risky business on old engines due to wear and tear....
2) it is very expensive. it would be cheaper to buy a turbo engine out of a sedan and swap engines

You could buy a used conversion but even those are rare.

Also I hope you don't have your heart set on a RHD automatic diesel...

Thanks for all the above info.
The last two days have proven to me that joining this site was definately a good move.

Is the saloon engine and 4x4 engine the same or is the 4x4 engine modified to cope with its different useage?
Is a swap like this common or very difficult i.e. wiring, plumbing etc?
Lastly, personally I prefer a manual gearbox but on reading your buying tips string your german friend recommended auto box only as the way to go. This was my only reason for mentioning auto gearbox.

Mike

Re: I all I've just arrived

The saloon (W124) and GWagen (W463) versions of the OM603 diesel engine are virtually identical, both in the naturally aspirated and in the turbo types.

Basically the only things that change are the oil pan (it interferes with thefront diff in the G), the oil pump (does not fit in the smaller oil pan) and in some cases the rocker cover.

In fact I had the engine of my G replaced by a brand new one of the saloon type a few months ago> http://www.gwoa.co.uk/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2418 and as I said I only had to change those three things
