I've been thinking about changing the tyres on my SWB G since i got it 3 months ago, Its currently got Kingpin MT remoulds.

Then on the M56 by manchester airport as I was thinking about fitting 265 BFG mud terrains, humming and haaring about the price (£101 inc VAT and fitting at costco)then this happened to the rear at 75mph in the outside lane,

I can report that the G remain remarkably stable all the way to the hard shoulder.

I was quite happy, time to learn how to change the wheel, as I put the Jack under the back and started to pump away, the jack wonldn't budge, seal's gone! t**t.

Phone RAC arrived 30mins later. I call costco, they fit them on tuesday.

Moral of the storey? Please feel free to tell me.

Re: Blow out!

ps does anyone know where to get my jack fixed?

apps - yes if you look very closely through the back window you can see a Defender, I needed a soft roader for the wife.

12mths old, 2 gear boxes and 5 revisits for the air con, and yes the chassis has already started rusting!

But Clakson say's it's cool!

Re: Blow out!

BFG's fitted and given their first run out today!

Notes
1) suprisingly quiet!

2) didn't need rear diff lock to climb my local test slope (16ft of grass and brambles, at 40 degrees, standing start 6ft from slope. The defender always needs the central diff locking but it is running standard tyres.

3) Can't wait to try the above in the wet.

Now I just need new shock absorbers, ant recomendations out there?

Re: Blow out!

Contact Merv at G Class centre. I'm having mine from him in 2 weeks. You can change springs and shocks for the normal price of shocks, and its the same thing (less the badge)

Re: Blow out!

I'm letting him fit it. It's time the girl gets a good look over, I take her offroad at least once a week in various degrees of seriousness, all of that will definitely take its toll. I want him to show me all the grease points as well, ‘cause things are starting to stick on the ol’ girl. It’s a case of spend a little save (hopefully) a lot.

Re: Blow out!

Yes both new. Brown stuff on pic. is not rust!

Monroe gas, nice handling / ride compromise.
