So I have finally aquired my second G and have a series of questions for the people here! :)

First up, it has what appears to be a stock rearview mirror, yet for some strange reason I cannot adjust it to my desired location because it actually contact the windshield and can't be moved any further. I suspect that the mirror is probably from a similar error Mercedes vehicle and hence looks right, but doesn't actually function perfectly. Perhaps it is that the mount is wrong, perhaps the mirror housing is too thick? Maybe they are just all like this from factory. Hopefully someone can help me solve this. The vehicle is a RHD 2000 G500. Please see a couple of photos below that hopefully help explain.

I see what you mean.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think that is original.  Maybe a look at the EPC will show the intended type.

A lovely era G500 though.

Hi

I have the same era G500, I will take some pics tomorrow

I do know the mirrors occasionally fail

I do know the G is a specfic part number not shared with other models

I do know they have been unavailable from MB for a while

I do know used are very hard to find!

Other than that I don't know much ;0)

Hi Gav, thanks for that, did you get the chance to take some photos? Definitely all signs pointing towards this being a similar period item but not exactly right installed.

I once had a 1996 W210 E300D with this style mirror. It used the old type infra red remote controlled central locking, with a red and green LED in the drivers outside door handle and in the rear view mirror, with the sensor also being in the mirror.

 

Do you have the infra red type remote locking?

Thanks for that. It's currently in the shop having bits and pieces sorted but when it gets back I'll check it out, I think it looks slightly different.
