Prewarm light on 463 diesel
HI.
Until last week, the prewarm light on the dashboard of my 1993 463 diesel worked normally - ie, when ignition was turned on, light would come on for a few seconds, then go off, and stay off when engine was on.
All of a sudden, when ignition now gets turned on, prewarm light stays off, and only comes on when engine is started. Tends to go off after engine has been running for 5 mins or so.
Would anyone know if this is likely to be an electrical fault, or a problem with glowplugs etc?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks
Rob
One or more of your glowplugs need replacing.
I suggest that you replace them all. If one or more are gone the rest are likely to go fairly soon.
Go to a Bosch motor factor and have them bought there instead of at MB. They are a pain to replace though, because the inlet manifold is in the way.
Cheers
I bought a new set in 01 and they were 6.81 Ea+ vat. They were Beru HN 858. Genuine MB parts.
I paid some one to fit them as I didn't fancy the job. I reckon an hour max should do it.
Is the engine starting correctly still or is it more difficult. You could always postpone the job till the end of summer if you are not having any difficulty starting. Winter is when they are really useful.
Jesus is correct about the fault, the warning light "plays up" when there is a fault
The engines in our vehicles are the same so there's no reason to suspect that they wouldn't fit.
If you buy them from MB you know they will be OK. If you managed to source them from another Beru dealer then they should recognise the numbers.
Here's some more info I dug up.
Beru Number-0100 221 162
Bosch no-0250 201 026

Jesus,
Would you know how much I should be paying for the glowplugs?
How many hours should replacing them take?
Thanks
