M Class W164 claims bonnet is open
fixed for now with some WD40 but has happened a couple of times.
I either need a new sensor or ideally just pull out a fuse so this message never appears. Not being insane I don't drive with the bonnet open!
Anyone happen to know the answer?

I think there is a micro-switch in the bonnet catch. If you have the message on the dash in the LCD display, then this is a CAN system, and there's no fuse to pull to prevent the message. Cleaning or replacing (or bridging) the switch will be the answer.
